Cincinnati is going to be a darkhorse candidate here.

Amazon just bought an entire terminal of the Cincinnati airport as the base for its future air operations.

See my post a few above. I think it fits perfectly with what they have been doing and their current growth

Kentucky makes like zero sense, who cares if UPS HQ is there.

Dallas and Nothern Virginia have massive tech companies at each and a huge educated population/skilled workforce

my money would be Virginia but we'll see

Most major catalog/online companies are located there. Amazon has one of their biggest facilities there already for distribution. They have been buying land in the area pretty heavily already recently.

Your comment about UPS is pretty naive considering the regions current businesses

huge educated population/skilled workforce

as does this region as well. There are 6 major universities all within an hour of each other

I wonder how much of a factor proximity to distro centers is?

UPS North America HQ is in Louisville, and I agree that's probably not the best solution, but Cincinnati more than qualifies - two F50 companies already (Kroger and P&G), six more F500 companies, plus GE Aviation, significant Amazon investment already in the area (especially the air piece), etc. Dallas and DC don't make a ton of sense to me based on their future path and how they've done things in the past, but we'll see, I guess.

which is great

but they're basically talking about a co-HQ. What does distribution have to do with it?

so all those white collar jobs at HQ can send a bunch of UPS packages now?

as does this region as well.
there is no way on this earth that Northern Kentucky has the size/quality of educated workers has Northern Virginia or even Dallas. Not a chance in hell

This is what I'm wondering. Seattle is hardly centrally located so I'm not sure it has anything to do with their business model.

Is this a joke?

Vegas? Orlando?

No. Low tax environment, both have growing tech sectors.

Vegas is a popular option for West Coast people that want to remain close to home. Orlando has been one of the fastest growing metros in the country post-recession and it hasn't been fueled by tourism.

BOS metro is really a shithole - but I guess it could appeal to certain types -just don't see Amazon in the NE metropolitan corridor at all, though...

Couldn't be more wrong there, but whatever. It was good enough for companies like GE to establish their headquarters, at least.

I could see it being in the Northeast, but likely not Boston. Someone mentioned Connecticut, I think that would make a lot of sense. Another city that would make some sense that I don't believe has been mentioned before is Pittsburgh.

But if I had to bet, I would agree with many posters on here that Austin (or at least TX in general) would make the most sense.

DFW area and Nashville would be my guesses. And with DFW being a strong leader.

I live in Fort Worth and I don't think they will come to Texas. Politics like bathroom bills, illegals, and other liberal causes will keep them from wanting any part of Texas as far as a second HQ is concerned.

Gov. Abbott when he found out that Amazon wants to build a 2nd HQ.

I wouldn't be shocked if amazon picked a red state just to show some diversity I'd bet Nashville lands it. No way it goes to D.C. maybe Amazon should just buy FedEx and move to Memphis

It'll go to the state that offers the best tax incentives to the point that Amazon basically pays nothing for locating there.

Cortana would be the perfect spot for the distribution hub, the empty lots downtown near IBM would be the perfect spot for the corporate office. Get it done Broome, get it done Billy, and get it done Edwards.

That would be sweet. Anywhere but the land of fruits and nuts/mexifornia. Let them rot in their own misery out on the left coast.
