I have an interview next week in Seattle for a non-technical position with Amazon.
I have heard about the "bar raisers" and the grind that is the Amazon interview process.

Has any of the OT'ers had any experiences interviewing with Amazon or work for the company? Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.

Add "paging CAD" to your thread title.

Wasn't there a tell-all article about them last year that said they were well known to treat employees like shite?

Have to disagree. One of my best friends works for Amazon and a Software Engineer and he said it is a great company to work for.

He gets over $100k worth of stock over three years as a sign on bonus, and they paid for his move.

I have a friend that quit to work for comparable pay at a local SEO Seattle company. Take it for what it's worth.

I have many friends in Northern Virginia who work for or did work for Amazon. The reputation here is that they grind people up and spit them out.

I work at Amazon Corporate as a Technical Program Manager in SDE. Define your non-tech role and I can help.

Sounds like your buddy is lazy af. Working at Amazon is a smart move for driven and proactive people. Darwinism is our belief that weeds out the shitty workers.

Most jobs at corporate earn $100K per year. My stock portfolio is worth $250K which will be vested in 2 years. Working at Amazon was the best decision I've ever made. Life is damn good!!!

Meh, I know a ton of people who work or have worked at Amazon, in both tech roles and finance. They all either hated it or are just the kind of people who don't mind working crazy hours. I couldn't do it. You can find equivalent pay in seattle with significantly better work life balance

while that's true to a point, what other companies offer RSU's at $742 per share?

I think the article was mostly about a bunch of lazy whiney arse wharehouse workers.
I have a close family member who works for them and he loves it. They have a pretty flat mgmt structure and reward their good employees very well.

I've been through interviews with them and declined the position. Didn't feel like relocating. I do have friends and family that work there. The posts above me are a good description. People either love it or hate it. It's a culture of hard work, accountability and cutting to the chase to deliver outcomes and not caring for touchy feely stuff that other big tech names are known for. If you want a lot of work life balance and aren't driven to move up quickly then it may not be the right fit. If you are then go for it. It really depends on you.

Care to explain what the price of the stock has to do with your comment? Doesn't make any sense to me when discussing RSUs.

I think he is trying to imply that if you get 50 RSUs then you are being given ~$37,500 in options.

The reality is the offer works the other way around...the employer decides to give $37,500 in RSUs which happens to be equal to 50 RSUs.

I think that's the point you are making?

If you scroll up there was discussion about stock portfolios. As part of our comp plan we receive stock options as a sign on bonus.

You must be at Google, or a Venture Capitalist backed start-up company.
