The answer, my friend, is blowing in the wind.

Certainly there were advances and positives but I wish there were a do-over. We should have done better as a society.

Johnson was pretty much the wrong man at the wrong time.

Nice one alter. I'm not sad or close to the grave. Dating a 23 year old and you spank the monkey.

The music was excellent and revolutionary.

The art was garbage. I don't understand how anyone would say otherwise.

The cultural ethos was neutral. Some of it was good (the breakdown of racial barriers and the rise of second-wave feminism). Some of it was crap (the breakdown of the nuclear family and the explosion in hardcore narcotic use).

I agree with this. Nothing good could come from this this.

At the time it was good and progressive. If you could fast forward and see where it got us, from a political and societal standpoint I think there were things that would have been done differently. Music was the positive influence.

The 60's were like new politicians - all the good intentions, and end up as corrupt as the rest of their cohorts.

I am a product of the '60s, being born in 1948. I can say without a doubt, for me the best thing about the '60s was LSD. The insight and knowledge you gained while on LSD is almost indescribable. LSD changed my life for the better.

Jake, nothing I can say to you about growing up in the '60s you would understand.

Maybe if you lived in that time and had a low number in the lottery you might have some understanding of how things were. You do know what lottery I'm referring to?

All of the radical change that occurred during that time was bound to occur. As societies advance and economies modernize, you see racial/sexual equality happen.

At the same time... When social change occurs, there always will be discord/problems associated with people fighting change. There will always be unintended negative consequences.

What happened in the 60's --good and bad-- had to happen as a natural progression of society, so I don't think you can really say it was good or bad for society because there is no stopping social progress.

I hope that made sense.

Of course I do. Vietnam draft.

But, please go ahead and elaborate on the knowledge and insight you gained from LSD. I realize it's what everybody who used it is supposed to say, but I'd like to know beyond the trite pablum.
