So they had no back-up generator? No APS power supply? Just odd.
Definitely odd. That's a basic requirement of any datacenter.
I bet it has something to do with the switch gear used to toggle between power sources. That can be a single point of failure often overlooked in data center redundancy.
A bigger head scratcher for me is "off-site redundancy". Why wasn't there a dedicated offsite facility that could be fired up and run at least on a limited basis until the main center was restored?
It's called Disaster Recovery and if a company as large as Delta did not have one in place, heads must absolutely roll

I tracked down the issue.
Upon getting a locked up screen, one of the customer service reps called the "help line" and an Indian lady named Sue answered. She barely spoke English but asked if the CS Rep had "turned the system off for two minutes" or not. The subsequent shut down caused the worldwide outage.

So I'm driving to the airport. Check in on the app successfully, view my boarding pass, close the app. Pull it back up 10 minutes later and all my data is gone. I no longer have a boarding pass, or even a fricking itinerary. It's all gone. I still have my confirmation email from yesterday but when I enter the confirmation # on the website it says no records found. Tried to call...wait time over 2 hours. This is fricked up

Try twitter if you have it. They're usually pretty fast to help there

Data center 101.
Anyone looking at their installation would've recommended that.

ATL is going to be a circus later this morning. ..
Was it ever not?
Dealing with Delta reps at ATL is my idea of purgatory. I just want to wake from the dream whenever I have to go there.
