The landlord sounds like a total control freak.
Seems she’s built a system that takes advantage of users by fining them for everything.
I stopped renting AirBnB’s when I found a webcam mounted on a wall in the living room. I reported it to the owner and then unplugged it as we did not feel comfortable with a camera watching us.
The owner filed a complaint and tried to bill me for causing $300 in damages to the camera. Luckily AirBnB had a “no inside cameras” policy so they denied the claim and revoked her ability to rent through them ever again

They suck.
Nasty houses, ridiculous fees...
Way too many cameras.

I've never spoken to my airbnb hosts that much. It sounds like she was stalking him on the cameras.

Not a fan of cheaters but I hope the lawsuit bankrupts her. Perfect example of not minding your own business and violating someone else privacy.

Eh, it's her 6-figure investment, I'd have a pulse on my investment as well. Even if she is controlling, she gave him the rules, he agreed to comply by said rules, broke them anyway and skipped payment.
Two wrongs don't make a right, but the dude is an idiot.

I'd like to know how someone would determine if someone had peed in their pool.
Sudden and temporary increase in water temperature?

Fohler sent Mackey a long list of house rules, including no smoking of vaping, no excessive noise, no guests from the local area, no parking in front of the garage doors or on the right side of the driveway, no glass, food, drinks, or urinating in the pool, and no skinny-dipping.
What's the point of this one?

House parties, notorious AirBnb retals, lawsuits, etc

It's never been "great", but at least it used to be way cheaper. Now they have so many damn fees it's just as expensive as a hotel.
We got charged an additional $500 cleaning fee once and I swear my clean freak wife left that place cleaner than we found it. It was immaculate. We fought it and had no way to win.

Renting an airbnb to have a house party.

Well he’s a POS. At the word “discrimination,” his complaint would be tossed if I were judge.

Where is the extortion? I am not seeing her threaten to send the pics unless he pays. I am just seeing that she sent the pics.

He needs to make it hurt and send a message to any "superhost" that thinks this kind of behavior is remotely acceptable.
Or maybe the guy who rented the place should have followed the rules about noise/number of guests, etc?

Maybe you had a one off event, but the trick is thoroughly reading the reviews, fees, rules, etc before purchase. I always find the home on maps street view as well to check out the area. Reviews are the most important, but reading any ridiculous fees/rules can be a flag too.
I am around 7 for 7 so far with zero negative experiences.

It sounds like he basically did though, and was in communication with the owner about his plans. It even says there were fewer people than they had discussed anyway.
I don't care about this dude cheating on his wife; that's between them. But this owner sounds like a real piece of shite who is trying to get as much money out of these "fees" as possible. frick her.

Well you're assuming he didn't. It sounds like a big case of he said she said. All of the statements are just claims, not evidence.

I've had 20+ positive experiences but the prices with fees included are making Airbnb no longer the cheaper option in a lot of cities.
The one where I got charged $500 had the clause in the agreement saying something to the effect of "If there is a considerable mess left behind that requires additional cleaning, etc. a fine me assessed" or something. That's in a lot of these things, this person was just a piece of shite and went for the money grab. They had good reviews, albeit not a lot folks had reviewed it.
Anyways, the real issue is the cost "all in" has just gotten so much higher. Hotels offer so much more for comparable prices.

i dont doubt the airbnb host probably created the fake email but is there any actual proof other than the guest filing the lawsuit and making that claim?
gonna need a photo of Pamela Fohler for a full understanding of the story
also do we have any evidence presented by the defendant yet or is this 100% the cheater's story of why he didn't pay?
do we have an accounting of who showed up and when for the party or again, we are going off his lawsuit and assume the facts?
