That's them, my AIT was there in 92.

As for joining, I wasn't going to college and my options were to go offshore or the shipyard.

I retired from active duty in 2012, I'd do it all again the exact same way if I had to. I enjoyed it.

For the money, for the glory and for the fun.

(Mostly for the money.)

I didn't have the grades to get a full scholarship to college and my Dad couldn't afford to pay for college. On top of that, I wanted to get out of Louisiana, so I figured joining the Army would be the best option. It seemed to have worked out as a good choice. I'm retired with 20 years in the Army and now have a good job at a hospital.

ETA- Also, my Granddad was in the Navy. My Dad was Army and my Step-Dad was Air Force. So I guess it's just in my blood.

1. Was not ready for a 9 to 5 after college
2. Was curious about what war was like since you could see images all over the news after 9/11
3. Army paid off my student loans.

I stayed in for 8 years... 4 more than I intended but I have no regrets even though I started my professional career at 32 and years behind all my friends.

I had no plans on going to college at the time and I knew I needed discipline in my life. One of the best decisions I have ever made.

1. Family history in the military back to civil war;

2. Judge thought it would be a good idea.

9 years active and 15 reserve component and as soon as i vest in current rank im pulling the pin, nothing more chicken shite than a garrison army.

I joined the army right after highschool in part because of the challenge and I knew it would help me take on a leadership role in life.
I am also a patriot and love my country. I am glad I did it and working with the m1 a1 abrams tank was amazing.

Both Grandfathers served, one a Lance Corporal in the Marines and the other an Air Force Captain, but my father was very Anti-Military. I knew when I was a kid I wanted to join, went through JROTC in high school, and enlisted at 17 (1997). Spent 10 years as a Fire Direction Control (13E/D) and a 15 month stint in Baghdad with the 2nd Armored Cav (03-04) before being med-boarded in 2007.

Joined National Guard between junior and senior year in high school for the college tuition ('83). Activated for Desert Storm 1990. Got out after 11 years. Glad it was part of my life.

Originally (20+ years ago) for college money. I've stayed because I love it and patriotic reasons. It is a great career. The military has been very good to me and I'd do it all again.
