It looks like good education, but it is pricey, in my opinion.

At least your kid's parents are smart enough to detect a scam.

Shortest thread ever.

Threads about standardized tests with all the whiners are so predictable. There excuses/arguments remind me of the scene from Gladiator:

quote:

You wrote to me once, listing the four chief virtues. Wisdom, Justice, Fortitude and Temperance. As I read the list I knew I had none of them. But i have other virtues, father. Ambition, that can be a virtue when it drives us to excel. Resourcefulness. Courage. Perhaps not on the battlefield but there are many forms of courage. Devotion, to my family, to you. But none of my virtues were on your list. Even then, it was as if you didn't want me for your son.

My 7th grader just scored a 23. LSU requires a 22.

I debated starting a thread asking for verifiable proof. I know I still have mine somewhere, just need to find it.

The number of 4.0 GPAs and sub 18 ACT scores would shock most of you. Its not the ACT - its grade inflation in the high schools. C students are being given As because they bring in canned food or attend sporting events.

The ACT/SAT is a great indicator of true intelligence. I'd take my chances on a 2.0 GPA and a 28 ACT over a 4.0 GPA and an 18.

BOOM!

and lets upvote some truth

Not mine, but here is my daughter's latest. She's going to Rhodes in Memphis.

My son made a 28, he starts college in May. I was hoping that the score was a good indicator that he should do well in college, not so sure after reading this thread.

College is about showing up and doing the work. If he is naturally bright it will provide him some extra cushion. If not he will have to diligently work.

College typically isn't about how smart you are, it's about how much effort you're willing to put into it. (you still have to be somewhat intelligent obviously)

Its definitely her weak area. But she manages good grades. Definitely has to work harder in her science classes. I was a Humanities major with a passion for history and politics. I talked to her more about classical music, wars and great literature than I did science over the years.

If he made a 28 he's smart enough, motivation is only issue now.
