I’ve heard Townsend (may be spelled wrong) is great. Also, not sure what his addiction is, but I have heard that Suboxen treatment when done in a very short period of time, less than 2 weeks, really works. The only thing you have to deal with shitty cash hungry doctors that take cash only and want the patient to stay on the medication for long time frames to milk money. However, I know a person who had a really bad opioid problem and took suboxen for two weeks to help with withdrawals, and never touched the stuff again. Completely different guy today. He swears that medication saved his life.

Dont shoot the messenger, but I’ve heard when used responsibly over a very short period of time, suboxen works great for pain pills, heroin, etc.. addiction. From my understanding, it is not methadone and isnt a drug that gets a person high. Its only purpose is to stop withdrawels that are a major reason people are afraid to quit.

No offense,

OP,please don't let your son get on Suboxone.

It's very strong and may be harder to get off than the drugs he's currently taking.

This is just my opinion from personal experience and observation of others.

inmo,it's trading one addiction for another.

eta:Your friend is right about it taking awat withdrawel symptoms. And,I'm sure he felt like he was dying until they gave him Suboxone.

I know people that have been taking Suboxone everyday for 5 years.Going every month to get their script from "Cash Only" Doctors.

If they quit taking the Suboxone their Withdrawels would be hell.

And you do get high.It contains Naloxine which stops any other Opiates you take from working.

But,the active ingrediate,Buprenorphine,is used by itself for Pain Control. So it does get you high.Just not the same as Oxy and Tabs and such.

imho,it's not something a kid,young man,should be taking.It's like a last resort option.jmho

I have one not to recommend. I had a family member in St. Christopher's. I think that was the name of it. Anyway, it's a dump.

That place in North LA is amazing.

Put him in rehab out of town..local leads to new connections, not healing.

They have to want to get clean. First time I went I wasn't ready and all I got out of it was better connects. Second time went to a nicer place ready to give it up and I've been good for multiple years.

I was lucky to have parents stick by me and be supportive. U are doing the right thing

You need to drop the anger. It will not help in any way shape or form.

The sad fact is that unless he feels the need to stop, he won't and at his age, it is very hard to convince them of the damage they can do to himself and those he cares about.

You need patience and firm resolve. He needs to see and hear the stories of people who continue down the path he is going.

Good luck.

Would you consider sending him to a facility in a different city? He may know ppl in his local center. Also, it's a sad statistic that many relapse after leaving & would be another bad influence on your son after he's out of - worse - another contact for what he wants.

Through experiences with friends in the past, all I can say is don't expect the first time to stick and work. It's very rare that it does.

There will be relapses until he decides he wants to stop or something hits him hard and wakes him up.

Good luck but just be prepared

Not true. Suboxone is an opiate antagonist which means it binds up all the receptors opiates would generally bind to. If you were to take opiates while on it, it blocks the effect. It also helps with the cravings as it binds to the receptors. A reputable physician will gradually wean them down. It helps to see a mental health professional that specializes in addiction treatment. Louisiana's regulation of suboxone is much more lax than Arkansas. So, be careful in who you pick.

Of course, this may all be a moot point. I never saw posted what the substance was. I think we all just assumed opiates.

Very true. Don't let on that you expect relapses, but be prepared. It can be frustrating as hell. The draw of the med is strong. The biggest thing is to treat any underlying factors that led to it. Most of the times, addiction is driven by self medication for various undiagnosed or untreated issues.

Just curious.Have you ever taken Suboxone?

I'm not wanting to argue with you.I don't want to be right.

The big thing here is obviously MB83's Son.

I'm just curious.Whether you have or not I won't Post anything else about Suboxone, cause I don't want to Hijack.

Take care.
