I guess I don't see more headlines about Sterling = more public outrage about it. When someone like Lebron speaks out about Sterling, it's naturally going to create headlines and more attention because he's a celebrity, but I don't think that means the general public is more upset about it. There is also some suspense involved with Sterling as to what will happen, whereas most people have pretty much accepted Hernandez is guilty and wrote it off.

The aaron hernandez story was huge when it first broke, lets not act like it wasn't.

The sterling situation is different for many reasons. It's gotten lots of airtime because it brings up other talking points such as the state of racism in our country, our right to privacy, etc. As somebody mentioned before, aaron hernandez killed people, it's pretty black and white. With sterling, there are shades of grey as there are people defending his right to his own opinion and that he shouldn't lose his team. Also you have morons like Lebron butting in that generates headlines as well.

It's 2 completely different situations, but the Sterling issue is unique as it generates lots of different commentary on multiple matters, whereas Hernandez story was pretty cut and dry.

I don't either, although not for humanitarian reasons, so if he did get it, I'm not holding a sign or anything.

Let him sit there each day and think about the life he could have had, and the life he chose. The death penalty imo is an easy way out!A 40M contract is a good life, instead he chose to be a THUG!

Let's take him out FRONT and do that and make an example of him, medieval style.

Hernandez seems to be enjoying himself in there. Now he doesn't even have to hide his gangbanging.

And I don't want to pay for him to get feed 3xs a day.

I just think if you polled people right now on which situation upset them more the majority would answer Hernandez. At least I hope so, now I'm starting to doubt myself

I think you put way too much faith in the average Joe.

I'd bet the vast majority of people in this country have no idea Hernandez was just charged with two more murders.

Yep.

Also the whole sterling ordeal has been made into a much bigger thing than it should have. Last night Doc was saying he admired this team for going went they went through as if it was some kind of natural disaster. WTF is wrong with people the guy made a few remarks that shouldn't mean anything to anyone...so fricking what.

Nah, a lifetime of getting plowed by Dirty Mike and the Boys fits the crimes far better than the death penalty.

He's already beating the shite out of people in prison.

He literally is dirty mike, and has all the boys.

He has a much much better chance of being found not guilty than getting the death penalty. He's got the money for a damn strong legal team, I wouldn't be surprised at all to see him walk.

It's a decent theoretical point, but I don't think you're right. I think your version is a reasonable explanation of how a reasonable society would do it. In truth, I don't think people give a shite about murder and rape if the people being murdered and raped are in circles or communities where it isn't that uncommon. There is no outrage because people don't really care.

The obvious exceptions are when someone from outside that community kills someone arguably in those circles (Trayvon Martin - world explodes) or whenever someone in that community kills a lily white person (crickets).

Unless it is a wife gone missing (and her husband has to be white, this is important) or you kill a kid or something, in many ways, racism is the worse crime. Or at least the urge of dumb white people to stand up and shout about how awful the racist is certainly provides that perception.

Agree with this

Is it that unique though? Its an old guy with off-color remarks. I'd say the remarks were pretty tame anyway in proportion with the outrage. Not even an n-bomb used.

And Marge Schott covered this 20yrs ago. shite, she was openly pro-nazi.

Probably correct. I'm basing the Hernandez outrage on when his first murder broke back last year not the current news FWIW. If Sterling is forced to sell the team and is out of the league then 10 months or so after that some other racist comments come to light I don't think people will give much of a shite about that either. Out of sight out of mind.

Innocent people have been put to death in the United States.

99.9999% of people sentenced to death were guilty of their crimes. That's why I oppose the death penalty. Anyway, let Hernandez rot in the genpop of a maximum security prison.

Hernandez won't "rot" in prison. He's got gang connections, street cred, a big name, he didn't roll over on anyone when he got caught, and has already started "earning his stripes" while in prison. He will be a kingpin in the prison system and enjoy it because he's a psychopath.

Shoot him in the back of the head. Barely cost the country a nickel instead of spending tax payer money to keep his stomach full.

There are over 2M ppl incarcerated in America and the number keeps rising. I hate to say it, but whats one more. I'd rather see him locked up than on the streets killing ppl... Let's be honest who "enjoys" prison.

In other words, he'll thrive in prison and reach his full potential there. Now, who says our penal system doesn't work?
