What has anyone else done in this situation? There's what I want versus what I should not want.

$50k or less, would rather far less. Moderate winter weather for 3-4 months and the commute ain't getting any shorter.

Thanks in advance.

I used to make that commute. It's awful, no two ways around it. I know you're not asking this question, but my sincere advice is to either move closer to work or look for work closer to you.

But if you're insistent on making the drive, you want a reliable and comfortable car. I'd think about a used Lexus ES.

A year ago I test drove a used VW CC for my stepdaughter and absolutely loved it. Fun to drive and the interior is right there with the higher end Germans. I'd love to have one myself but my work pretty much demands a 3/4 ton. Anyway, I think they go for $35k new, give or take, and you definitely want a warranty with that kind of milesge.

I used to do a 110 mile trip. My advice on what to get, a tank. fricking idiots out there with you on the roads are crazy. You need something to protect yourself.

Used accord or camry. No use in piling miles on anything more expensive, you're just throwing money away. Fix the small stuff that comes up, when it needs a motor or transmission, get another car because at that point you've got 200k plus on the car.

I see we have 5 limp-wristed, effeminate, liberal-progressive Hillary supporters in here.

you didn't explain the kind of driving.
70 miles with 20 minutes of city driving before 6 am or you get in bumper to bumper traffic UGH.
70 miles on the interstate, put on a CD and blast to work.

all wheel drive with a mountain/snow handling option.
rain/snow tires

any place with moderate winter for 4 months a year has single digit record temps and often get icy road conditions.

voice command, a few buttons on the steering wheel.

read window windshield wiper.

somewhere near 50K you get headlight wipers.
