I agreed with the response "I don't know if I could do it, but I'm damn sure not sitting in the back of the plane wondering if someone dumber than me is trying."

Exactly how I feel. I can land a small plane, many people can its not that big a deal, but something that large with a lot of people I would have a lot of self doubt.

But I prefer to be actively involved instead of trusting others.

As long as the manual was in the glove compartment with the technical support number, sure.

a guy I went to school with is a commercial airliner pilot and he says the same thing.

without some training, no way in hell.
so I asked if I'd ba capable of seeing up into the side of a mountain so it would be a quicker death for everyone, he said "possibly, but no guarantee"

Not that it was admirable but I remember some experts talking about the incredible skill set it took to fly into the WTC without some serious experience.

Oh, I thought this was being an ATC guiding in a plane, not landing a plane with assistance.

I'd bet some money that it would be easier to land a plane with someone talking you through it than it would be to act as an ATC without creating a Breaking Bad babies falling from the sky scenario.

I take one look at that and I hear engine noise and an explosion.

No better feeling in the world than when the landing screen popped up and you were sure you were going to crash short of the boat for the 20th time in row...just to watch the plane level off and slide on in for a landing. At that point you felt like you had just beat the game. It didn't matter that you had like 4-5 more levels to go. A landing was enough!

Well, i would 100% tell the stewardess, i don’t want to hear shite but go get me a cold beer.

I’m gonna need that to take a deep breath and then I’m gonna need to concentrate. So just keep bringing me beer when you see one empty and don’t bother me or ask questions

If not, i can gladly just fly this mutha fricker into a grove of trees or a lake

OTOH, nothing more deflating than getting speed and altitude correct only to go off to the side of the carrier and splash.

I pilot RC planes so I understand flight and flight controls.

Given enough time I think I could do it.

If it's an emergency and no one else on the plane has any flying experience I'm stepping up.

All things being equal, I want my life in my own hands.

Now if someone says they flew in the Air Force or something, that would change things.

I'm pretty sure I could take us all the way to the scene of the crash.

Depending on what she looks like, and given that death is almost a certainty as long as she looks sort of like a woman, Im also telling her I need to be blown to lose some anxiety....whats it gonna hurt????

If it’s an Airbus then just press the land button and you good.

I know I'd frick it up in my heart but I'm cocky enough to believe I could do it if I needed too

But you know- I'd rather be brave and wrong than a coward and right.

"frick it, I'll land this big bitch"

I am curious how many of the dudes convinced they could land a commercial airliner with some advice from the control tower can parallel park their F250 Diesel with the truck nuts??? Id bet at least half of them.

Out of that half how many can dock a boat when the wind and tide is fricking you. A single engine boat???? Rigggghhhhtttttt...

Taking a couple of shots parallel parking or bouncing off the dock even a little would be catastrophic in landing a huge arse jet....
