If you think you could manage it, you’re not alone. Survey results published in January indicate about one-third of adult Americans think they could safely land a passenger aircraft with air traffic control’s guidance. Among male respondents, the confidence level rose to nearly 50%.

I mean the scenario has played out a few times. What’s the success rate of the actual events?

I remember working at the Delta Operations center in the late 80s and getting to fly their simulator. They claimed at that time no one alive without some experience could actually land a plane and very few could do it in the simulator. I couldn't LOL. They said it had never been done back then (in real life). I don't know if it was true but it seems true.

There was a guy in Florida that landed a Cessna Caravan a while back. But yea landing a jumbo jet would be hard as hell. More controls than a pipe organ

I'm 50/50 on landing planes in video games. If you're counting on me in a real life emergency, we're all gonna die.

If 777 can do it, it can’t be that hard.

Landing one safely isn’t necessarily the problem.

Keeping track of a lot of planes crisscrossing the same airspace though? That’s a bitch.

Edit -

Oh, I thought this was being an ATC guiding in a plane, not landing a plane with assistance.

Yeah, I’d be fricked. Can’t beat the second mission in Top Gun between carrier landings and the refuel sequence.

It's all about altitude and airspeed.

An airplane, yes.

An airliner? A c-130? Shhhiiiii, i dunno. I’d give it a go if I had to.
