Any chance you work for a certain medical device company? If so, we may know some of the same folks.
My choice is whether to jump from industry to academia in a place my family and I have vacationed for a long time. Wife is on board but it's a big career change with a big drop in salary.

No way. I love my job and am able to live anywhere in the country, but I would not stay for a 40% cut

Same here. But other than that scenario, no. I'd stay with the job that paid 40% more.

Yes, and I did. I took a $40,000 a year pay cut to be able to spend more time with my family. I now have every weekend off, every night off to spend with my family, and my faith is very important also, so much more time to spend with that as well.
For me it was a no brainer, and now instead of working 60-70 hours a week, I'm at 39 or 40. Best move I've ever made!
