40% Pay Cut.....would you do it? (Updated)

Is there a scenario where you would take a 40% pay cut?
Simple question.

OK. Assuming you don't hate your job, could you keep the same job and move to any location in the US for a 40% pay cut?

Sure, depending on the circumstances. Would I do it if I had to do the exact same job I'm doing now? Absolutely not. Would I take the cut to live in my dream location or to do my dream job? Absolutely.

Sure. If I were making $300k and taking a job where I only made $180k meant a lot more free time and happiness.

Yes. Living where you want to live is way more important than money. Living by the beach is priority for me.

I like my current job, so I can't imagine what another company could offer. I do know a guy who took an almost 35% pay cut to go from a private consulting firm to government work. Way less stress, way better hours, but that must have been tough. Helps that he's a single guy

This. It's about what you and your family are accustomed to, and quality of life.
If I were making 300k, but having to travel constantly while having kids and a wife, I'd take 40% less to stay home. As long as I could still afford the same lifestyle.
It's what I'm currently doing now. I'm selling out while I'm young and single, but I know I'll take a pay cut when I leave. And that's fine with me.

Yes, there are "scenarios" where I would take that kind of pay cut.
However, none of those are likely to be realistic so 99.999% of the time my answer would be "no".

Wouldnt be much question. We couldnt live on a 40% pay cut. However, I wouldnt quit. 60% is better than nothing until I could find another job asap.
