This is a famous airshow. A helicopter collided with a gyrocopter and an WWII training plane crashed into Lake Winnebago. That' the big lake in Wisconsin.

Two people died when a North American T-6, a vintage military training craft, crashed around 9 a.m. into Lake Winnebago, according to the Coast Guard, who recovered the bodies of the two people on board Saturday night.
Two people were killed in a separate crash Saturday around noon, when a RotorWay 162F helicopter and an ELA 10 Eclipse gyrocopter collided midair.

I’ve been told that there are people who can’t come without butt plugs.

A larger gathering where a bunch of amateur pilots fly into an airspace crowded with other amateur pilots, some flying experimental aircraft. What could go wrong?

Oshkosh is crazy. Largest airshow in the world.

I see that a guy landed going the wrong way on day one.

I’m not going to say you’re remotely wrong but to balance the amateurs there is a huge contingency of professional pilots and some of the best (and extremely patient) air traffic controllers in the world there. To get that many different type of aircraft with various piloting skills in one setting is Guinness-like. Just do a search on arriving and landing in Oshkosh and it’s eye opening. Multiple aircraft landing on the same runway very close together…it’s amazing more accidents don’t happen.

That's pretty much what he was saying.

I used to work in the direct flight path for EAA so I was sort of happy to hear the planes but the traffic was awful.

The T-6 isn’t the safest plane in the sky. Friend’s husband was a T-6 trainer. When they grounded them the last time, he retired and now flies for Delta.

I’ve been looking at that Rotorway (new owners, now called rotor x) as my next build. It’s a really sharp little helicopter. I have a feeling that this accident had nothing to do with the fact that it was an experimental home built and more to do with one or both pilots being in error with all the traffic.

Didn’t know about the t-6 until this post. It’s a shame, those are some monsters in the sky and they don’t make them like that anymore.
