Was 9.

Crazy times. I wish the ability to capture something like that, like we do now, existed back then. The event deserved better footage.

The stats on the eruption are staggering with the amount of energy released and the damage inflicted. The before and after pictures are insane. Wiki said the release was equivalent to 1,600 Hiroshima bombs.

I could be wrong but I seem to remember getting a dusting of ash in S. La? Can anyone confirm this?

Not to be a conspiracy theorist or anything, but don't those numbers seem a bit far-fetched to you? We have zero proof that the explosion actually happened and then they expect us to believe:

was equivalent to 1,600 Hiroshima bombs.

I think someone would have noticed that.

I remember hearing about this...... And it could happen again. I would never live near a volcano.

You already live close enough to Yellowstone to die, when it eventually erupts.

Yeah, I guess he'd lived a full life at that point and didn't give a crap about dying.

They named one of the local ridges after him, Harry's Ridge.

Beautiful area pre-eruption:

You live in the continental US, correct? In LA (or IN, where I live) It's not going bury you, but if you don't immediately relocate, the ash will make your life unlivable for some time.

it amazes me the amount of debris still in Spirit Lake.

We went there in 2009 when LSU played in Seattle. Just awesome to stand at the observatory and see the destruction from that day.
