Everyone raves about their Army knife but overlooks the poor quality of their Navy knife, you rarely even hear about them.

so the discovery of the large chunk that could be up to 250,000 years old is being held as a sensational find.

Did anyone read the article? The 250,000 year age is disputed. Some are saying 40 years, many others 400.

it was dated by Romanian officials

Oh, so we are to trust the work of Romanians from the time of the Ceauescu regime?

More likely this was part of a fighter plane or other military or earth-moving equipment that was improperly tested. I'd love to see the result if it was re-tested in a western country by a reliable institution. I think you'd see that it really dates from 1941 or something like that.

The Great Flood wiped out a technologically advanced civilization.

It's possible that we are the current iteration of a species that has existed for billions of years, periodically wiped out by natural disasters.

How would we know?

I actually think this is true, I just don't base that on an aluminum part that was no doubt sloppily dated by communist Romanians back in the '70s.

It is laughable the credit carbon dating gets when it is so often wrong.

Radioisotope dating is not limited to carbon. "Carbon dating" is just a commonly-used term that isn't really accurate.

Carbon dating itself has proven useful analyzing prehistoric human samples, but other isotopes are good for different ages. For example, Uranium-lead ratios are good for a couple of billion years. Quite a few other elements are used for that date range so that we can get measurements by multiple methods.
