I think it's one story that's indicative of that larger group. There are many stories, and there have been studies on the effects of the "everyone is special and gets a ribbon" nation we live in. My linked article on why so many gen Y people are unhappy is an example.

Yep, and those of us who aren't baby boomers point out how the boomers have financially and politically fricked this country for years to come.

Scruffy enjoys these threads.

Hopefully already addressed but :

Kim is a stupid count
Everyday life skills such as budgeting, balancing a check book, etc should be mandatory classes at every high school in the country.

An anonymous Internet forum full of trolls is the real world to you, and you are trying to separate yourself from this chick?

It may not be real world, but I'm just thinking for someone to be pissed off that a bank won't give her a loan with no interest needs a rude awakening. I can't think of many things that could wake someone up than the collective mind of the Internet making hell ensue.

It's kind of an unnecessary skill these days with everything being instantly online. However, a money 101 class wouldn't be a terrible idea. Just a basic "if you have X amount of dollars and you have Y amount of bills then you can't spend Z amount on stupid shite like make up and beer." It's amazing how many kids don't understand something so seemingly simple.

See, this is what's wrong with this country. Take responsibility and quit blaming others for your problems! I get what you are saying but we can't always expect someone who doesn't have any clue on how to do financial planning to do it. Just like a job, it takes training. My parents took the time to teach me. Someone has to step up and take the initiative.

There is something much more fundamental missing here. Blaming this on a lack of financial education is absurd.

While she's your prototypical dumbarse, I'm mighty proud of mom and dad for telling no - go get a loan. There is hope!!

Look at the state of our country as far as finances go. I don't think you can say the problem would be as bad if we, as a country, stepped up our game on financial education.

I am guessing the article may be wrong. I think she spent the 20k a year on tuition, dorm, meal ticket, books, lab fees, etc.

She said she spent the rest on clothes and a European vacation.

Unfortunately it isn't taught everywhere. I've met 20 somethings who couldn't fill out a check.

Grand parents were crazy to leave a lump sum with no safe guards on it. The chic got what she deserves.

If she's really hot, she can find an older guy to marry her and pay her bills for a few years.
