2016 Mitsubishi Outlander---What's the Opinion on Mitsubishi's?

My little sister wants me to go car shopping with her. She's in love with the 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander.
Not sure why, but whatever. I've basically told her Mitsubishi's are terrible cars, but she's not convinced.
What does the OT think of Mitsubishi's? Pieces of crap right? I don't want her to spend $30k on an unreliable junker.

These little Mitsubishis were hardy machines.

Go on YouTube and watch some reviews. Everyman driver has some good ones. My sister in law has a outlander and its pretty cheap and boring.

Looks like a bathtub on wheels.
It seems like the chassis and wheelbase belong to a smaller car that Mitsubishi enlarged to strange proportions in order to fit a third row seat.
Also, Mitsubishi makes some of the worst cars on the road and pushes a lot of garbage to low Income buyers through well below prime lending. As a consequence average Mitsubishi buyer often has a more shitty philosophy on vehicle maintenance than most drivers, and that hurts residuals even if you take care of your car. Mitsubishi is probably the worst in the industry for this.

When I worked at a Mitsu dealer, we'd see the demo vehicles smoking out the tailpipes within 90 days.
In their defense, I've heard they've improved some since the early 2000's.

I own two Mitsubishi, mirage 2015 and Outland 2015. I love them both. 45mpg on mirage, both have 100,000 mile power train warranties, both were extremely affordable. Blue tooth, keyless entry on both, could not be more happy.
Read consumer reviews if you want the truth on them. Read kbb consumer reviews , they beat out any competition of the same class consistently. For some reason U.S. professional reviewers hate them (wonder why?) but if you ask folks who have bought them, it is basically unanimous in approval ratings.

Pass.
They miss the boat on quality and resale. They aspire to be Nissan, they know Honda and Toyota are out of reach.

Because it's their job to tell the truth.

If by basically unanimous you mean the reviews are all over the board after three of four years then OK.
Mitsubishi ain't Fuji or Toyota or Nissan or Honda. Plain and simple. There's no plot to sabotage their marque in the U.S., their build quality and engineering are mediocre. The long-term owner satisfaction numbers bear that out.

Thanks for the replies guys. You've pretty much said what I've told her.
No, she's not black For some reason she loves the look of the 2016 Outlander. Have no idea why b/c I think it's terrible, but she's a girl and isn't concerned with stuff like resale, reliability, etc.
I'm going to try and steer her towards a CRV, Rav 4, Forester etc.

Who else has 100,000 mile power train warranty and 60k bumper to bumper?
Why are European professional reviews much better? They are liars?

edmunds consumer reviews has the outlander at a 4.75 out of 5.
Kbb consumer reviews has it at a 9.1 out of 10.
Yes, the consumer reviews are basically unanimous.
Unless his sister is hauling shite or racing, the best bang for her buck (mpg, out the door costs, safety) and most reasonable choice is a Mitsubishi.

I know someone that has a 2013 or 14, it's pretty decent, nothing fancy.

re: European reviews.
Have you driven a Peugeot or a Renault lately? I have. They have to. A mediocre Japanese entry is a 4.75 out of 5 stars compared to a Megane.
The Mitsubishi-related Keiretsu has the mass to back up extended warranties. There could be a case made that the automaker HAS to offer the extended warranty to get people to buy their vehicles.
Build a better mousetrap and the world will beat a path to your doorstep.
The world is not beating a path to their Mitsubishi dealers' doorsteps. The market has spoken.

MM had 18 months of month over month increases in sales. It is the fastest growing car manufacturer n the UK for the third year in a row. The mirage broke company records for monthly sales in May... But you already knew that.
Provide the best warranty because you want to put people in a superior "mouse trap"? GTFO with that nonsense. This is a car manufacturer which has turned around and are making quality and affordable products with a warranty almost twice good as the competition to back it up.

My wife had an Outlander Sport for a little while. We kept it for about 2 years and 40k. Other than a bad original battery, no real issues.
Pros:
1. Reliable
2. Really cheap on gas
3. Was cheap to buy, under $20k new
4. It was pretty decently equipped for what it was.
Cons:
1. Slow
2. Mitsubishi Stigma
3. Noisy Interior
4. Resale was bad (but not as bad as I expected)
5. CVT
