agreed with this to an extend. we had both our bicycles stolen a month ago. they were locked up on Magazine st. a block away from the police station…they stole all the bikes in that area…they have zero fear because our police don't have time to deal with the petty shite…they also have stolen the tires and wheels off several Uptown vehicles in some of the safest parts of the city…again, police don't give a shite
I will give the police some credit, when an Uptown girl got raped by 3 black teenagers a few months ago, there was A LOT of pressure put on them to find the assailants and they did…the boy were 14, 15, & 17 years old…that's probably what's most scary about the city are the immature teenagers who don't know the difference between right & wrong…they seriously think it's okay to steal shite--it's hard to blame them when the parents taught them that….some kids will turn their life around (like the art student going to Yale) but others will live this life forever.

If my head was up my arse, I'd be worried about getting HIV and being murdered, but since I don't run in those crowds, I have neither to worry about very much.
I never said New Orleans was some utopia, and I'd much prefer this sort of thing didn't happen and the city was crime free, but as a productive citizen living in a productive area of town, I'm going to put my odds at HIV at 0% and getting murdered at .0000000000000001%.
I guess I should be scared of being a victim of a terrorist attack too.

That happened about a month ago. They were the only bad element on the block. I knew they were slanging something with the amount of traffic. Shooting happened right in front two brand new construction homes that people had just moved in. Good thing is the dude is gone now. It was funny talking to some of my black neighbors when it happened. They sounded like racist white folks the way they talking about those thugs.
I can tell you when I lived in Houston I was a victims of more crimes. Those frickers like to break in cars all the time especially in gated parking garages.

OK bicycle theft is the least of NO's problems.
A year or two ago a couple of regular Otis Campbells Uptown decided they were going to set up a "sting" by leaving an unlocked bike in the open and waiting in a bush for someone to come steal it. They managed to nab a couple of homeless winos, if I recall correctly.

Actually, I did look it up and several cities had multiple murders over the Memorial Day weekend. It's not a problem unique to New Orleans. People are murdered in major US cities every single day. Even shitty little BR has murders very often. Again, crime is not a problem unique to New Orleans. It's a problem throughout our entire country. New Orleans is doing great by nearly every measurable metric. If New Orleans was even half as bad as the haters on this board attempt to make it out to be, then it wouldn't be the fastest growing city in the US or one of the top 10 tourist destinations in the country every year.

When I served on a jury in Orleans, the african american folk on the jury were the most gung ho "guilty as frick throw the book at them" of everyone.
