so, were your parents born in Germany? or all 4 of their parents?

PS: census isn't lying, it is misinformed people.

if your ancestors have been here since the Civil War, probably absolutely no chance unless they lived in secluded areas

Angles and Saxons were Germanic tribes I think, they and the Jutes mixed when they came to England from Germany and they are the Anglo-Saxons.

no way Jose, vast majority of Southerners who claim to be German only say that because of a recent German ancestor.

if he has been here as long as you say, you will have to trace all of the females lines as well to get a true answer. good luck.

this is also a big part of it, even after the Revolutionary War people decided they were American instead of English

Not in Louisiana.

Colonial Louisiana (which was Colonial French/Spanish and not English, of course) had many more German settlers than English.

South Louisiana as well as much of the south & mid-west had an influx after WWI due to the Austrian German migration.

i have german ancestors, and Dutch, and Italian, and Native American, and Panamanian, etc. Not many people left with just one dominant ancestry.

I'm both. English ancestors have been here longer. My German ancestors came over in 1869.
