Could have sworn we were above 500 in 2013 when we had a top 5 defense

Good coaches maximize poor talent pools, so this will be a good measuring stick on how good of a coach sean payton actually is... in my opinion.

9 hicks? he's prob my 3rd fav player on our d

09 D was way better and littered with proven veterans. 15' guys have done nothing but underachieved

You have the benefit of hindsight when making that analysis. Would you have thought the same way before the 2009 season. Sharper was coming off of a few bad years, Porter hadn't don't much in his career at that point, people were calling for Will Smith's head after he combined for 10 sacks in the prior 2 years....

How have the underachieved when the season hasn't even started?

And we're still not in absolutely horrible shape after this season (assuming Brees extends), but we were going to be in pretty good shape in 2016 until that blow up

You can't expect people to actually take a minute to think about how Loomis will be able to do what he has done every year and make shite happen. Brees will be extended so his cap hit will drop in the $18-19M range, Cam will have his roster bonus converted, Evans can be moved to save money (especially if he continues his downward trend) & Ellerbe will probably be reworked/cut if he doesn't start saving $4.5M. And that's just a quick glance

We're talking about talent right? That's what the thread title says. We had a lot of talent last year, but it didn't materialize into a winning record. That team had more talent than some previous teams but they didn't play together.

I just don't agree.

And, we lost our best player not named Brees as well.

I'm not saying it's impossible that several things go well and things turn around. Hell, Payton was able to make that happen in his first year.

But, if I'm giving my honest assessment heading into the year, I think this is about a .500 team. And, I'm saying this as a guy who will freaking have to drive down to NO from BR 8 times to watch that .500 team. I'm really hoping I'm wrong.

Like Loomis making a dumb arse decision?

we are paying more people millions not to play in New Orleans. 19% of salary money goes to guys not on the team. More than any other team in the league.

No one, including you knows 2 fricks about how this team will perform. There are posisaints and negasaints. This board for the moment is infested with the latter. There IS talent across the board on this team. We just have yet to play a meaningful down or field the entire starting unit yet. Most of the judgmental fricks here (including you) have doomed this team before taking a regular season snap.

Honestly, even when the Saints are doing well, you struggle to even squeak out a positive thought without being a judgmental, pretentious a-hole. Could we go 3-13? There is a less than 1% chance that happens. Again, with less talent on the roster and no head coach, we won 7. I believe there is more talent even depth wise than you let on to believe.

This team I BELIEVE is capable of winning the division and winning a playoff game. Beyond that, everything is a bonus.

Everyone wants to throw in the towel on the season before it even starts. Fine, get the frick out of here.

guy at gym says we're 7-9 best case, will blow it all up at end of season, can't win paying qb 24 million, its all drew's fault, the world is ending, we all have a silent rabies, the pope is pregnant, and his daddy could be his aunt.

I understand pessimism and realistic views... but if you're going to be a pessimistic a-hole, you better not have one ounce of stupidity stirred in that drink or else there's no tolerance for your views. We suck, so lets cut the 4th best player in the league, the one player we can not sniff a win without. His fricking 24 million spent is the only thing keeping us alive and competitive. You have a smaller margin for other mistakes, sure. But that doesn't translate to blow up the franchise.
