Hopefully this will put things in prospective. We're really not all that far off from being a playoff team. Here's to getting it all together next season.

quote:

I'm probably wasting valuable offseason content, but I decided to see how much of a difference it'd make if all W/Ls from one-score (7 points or less margin) were reversed in outcome. All teams listed by the amount of wins they'd gain/lose. Mostly did this since pundits like Bill Barnwell frequently say that NFL teams tend to win 50% of their one-score games in the longrun, and I feel like this illustrates how different the postseason would be if the coinflips went differently.

Chargers +7 – 12-4

Bills + 6 – 13-3

Jaguars +6 – 9-7

Eagles +5 – 12-4

Bears +5 – 8-8

Panthers +5 – 11-5

49ers +4 – 6-10

Browns +4 - 5-11

Bengals +4 – 10-5-1

Saints +3 – 10-6

Cardinals +3 – 10-5-1

Vikings +2 – 10-6

Jets +1 – 6-10

Rams +1 – 5-11

Broncos +1 – 10-6

Falcons 0 – 11-5

Packers -1 – 9-7

Ravens -1 – 7-9

Colts -1 – 7-9

Titans -1 - 8-8

Seahawks -1 – 9-6-1

Buccs -2 – 7-9

Steelers -2 – 9-7

Redskins -2 – 6-9-1

Patriots -3 – 11-5

Lions -3 – 6-10

Chiefs -3 – 9-7

Giants -5 – 6-10

Cowboys -5 – 8-8

Dolphins -6 – 4-12

Texans -6 – 3-13

Raiders -7 – 5-11

AFC Playoff seeds would be

1: Bills

2: Chargers

3: Bengals

4: Jaguars

5: Patriots

6: Broncos

Honestly not sure about tiebreakers for the NFC South

NFC Playoff Seeds would be

1: Eagles

2: Falcons/Panthers

3: Cardinals

4: Vikings

5: Panthers/Falcons

6: Saints

Divisions

NFC West - Cardinals 10-5-1, Seahawks 9-6-1, 49ers 6-10, Rams 5-11

NFC East - Eagles 12-4, Cowboys 8-8, Giants 6-10, Redskins 6-9-1,

NFC North - Vikings 10-6, Packers 9-7, Bears 8-8, Lions 6-10

NFC South - Falcons 11-5, Panthers 11-5, Saints 10-6, Buccs 7-9

AFC West - Chargers 12-4, Broncos 10-6, Chiefs 9-7, Raiders 5-11

AFC East - Bills 13-3, Patriots 11-5, Jets 6-10, Dolphins 4-12

AFC North - Bengals 10-5-1 Steelers 9-7, Ravens 7-9, Browns 5-11

AFC South - Jaguars 9-7, Titans 8-8, Colts 7-9, Texans 3-13

Draft Order top 10

Texans, Dolphins, Browns/Raiders/Rams, Jets/Lions/Giants/49ers, Redskins

If only there was a great QB prospect for the Texans.

Edit: Cleared up a few typos. Did it by hand and misallocated a few in the original post, but should now be accurate.

Big difference between the 2014 and 2015 Panthers is that they won their close games.

Better special teams (can't get much worse) + Improving offensive line + Pass Rush = winning close games.

The Denver and Raiders games were just sickening to lose

Yeah, the Denver and Oakland games were tough losses.

That being said, we were a better team this year than last year. We still need some pieces, but we are at least trending in the right way. We need to make a playoff push next year though.

Exactly why I am expecting an improvement next season

Another 7-9 season, but it wasn't as bad as last years.

I've said this before. We lost 3 games because of a blocked XP/Field Goal.

Hold that block for an extra second on special teams, and we are 10-6, and likely motivated against Atlanta in that last game for a potential 11-5.

Defensively we are going to get better simply because we will be healthier. Our offense is already #1 and one of our biggest assets will be in his 2nd year.

People keep overlooking this. The improvement on this team was evident

If you would have said after preseason that we would lose Breaux in week 1 then Williams in week 2, and Armstead for most of the year, I think most would have picked under 7 wins.

And last year seemingly wasn't as bad as the year before.

And both of the past 2 years key injuries really hurt our defense.

They just can't afford to come out of the gate sluggish. No 0-2, 0-3 starts. We start off 2-0, go ahead and #PrintTheShirts

Also the only surprise in the NFC imo is the Eagles. None of the other records seem out of place.

Now the AFC, man there is some weird stuff there, more specifically the East and the West (North and South not that surprising).

Also if Drew didn't choke against the lions + Bucs we would have had something to play for Week 17....a playoff spot

You have discovered the code key for how the NFL markets its product. The Chargers and Bills were not marketable ratings wise this year and needed to fail.

With ratings issues all year, the Cowboys and Giants needed to succeed to avoid an NFL ratings disaster.

The Saints have been demonized by Roger Goodell and need to fail. The Patriots have powerful ownership and any sustained effort against them is pure theater.

The powerful big media or big ratings market teams are the current final four. Ratings are still down, overall, but the NFL has staunched the bleeding.

Small market teams are allowed to succeed when it fits a popular PR need. The NFL is very reactionary to bad publicity and good publicity and will adjust a team's fate accordingly.

The Cam Newton dab was popular and a marketing success. Newton and the Panthers were not penalized for their many taunting actions the previous season.

The NFL massages the tight NFL games each week as marketing and profitability require.

The subjective interpretation of the rules is a good tool to accomplish game manipulation while appearing to be just missed calls.

Point of emphasis are given to officiating crews by the competition committee as a means to massage close games.

When enough small market fans tune out, a short term placating reaction occurs. Eventually, Mark Cuban may be right.

So what about the Bears, Eagles, Jets, and Rams?

Did you watch San Diego play this year? Hell, look at their collapse against us.

I think you're giving the NFL front office way too much credit here.

I know it didn't feel like it but wasn't the last game technically a one score game against Atlanta?

NM. I see where he mentions they would be given the amount of wins they'd gain. Atlanta went 4-4 in 8 one point games. Threw me off

Unless this takes into account garbage touchdowns at the end of games, it's useless.

During bountygate, and not on this board, myself and a group of Saints fans, daily went after the NFL on their very website. It lead to a changing of NFL posting policy on their site. All my fantasy leagues and accounts were frozen. Pro NFL paid trolls attacked me on their website and in other forums.

I was offered a chance to be one of their trolls and attack others that disagreed with the NFL. I was offered a chance to be one of the NFL fantasy advice bloggers, as well.

I know full well what the shield is capable of in promoting their product and agenda.

You are either very naive or have accepted one of their faustian bargains.

This is not the first time that you have defended an NFL position while seemingly maintaining your appearance as a Saints fan.
