If I use Over the Cap's numbers, I get $3.1M in space now.

Over the cap has been about half a mil low vs. the NFLPA's count and spotrac has been all over the place on the high side.
Going straight from overthecap we would be at $3.72m under with the $1.4m hold on Bush still in play and Bailey and Bunkley accounted for. Add in the half mil they've been off and we are about $4.2m under.
And Bush may cost more or less than the $1.4m depending on structure. It was an incentive laden deal and the split is not likely to be 50/50 between the years. So I'm guessing he'll actually cost less than his original $1.4m.
So we may be about $4.5m under.
Edit:
If you go by the reported number in the op and factor in Bailey, we are just about $4m under not accounting for Bush's adjustment.
So yeah we should be between $4-4.5m under.

Yeah, my accounting for Bush was a worst case scenario in which his hit was half the deal or $2.25M. That is where mine differs a bit from your calculations. $3.1 to $3.7 roughly.

I also forgot to take out $300k for Bunkley's roster bonus tomorrow. And I'm not sure how legit it is, but someone said Bush's hit is under $2m this year.

"The Saints should have less than $2M of cap room after Bunkley, Champ & Bush. I've heard Bush's '14 cap number is under $2M."
But he's way off on our cap number so he might be full of shite.
If that's the case though, worst case scenario has us about $3.5m under, maybe up to a little over $4m.

I am pretty sure they included the roster bonus when they claimed the savings he'd be getting ($2.85M) and so it is assumed that it will count.
I think in the end, the Saints will be between $3.5 and $4M after this. If they can sign a guy like Goodwin for the Vet minimum, this team would have no major holes, would just need a few areas for upgrade like ILB, coverage OLB, and WR depth/quality.

Yeah if we get Goodwin we'd be set outside of the draft(also allowing us to go full bore BPA). Not sure if there are more than a handful of players left in FA that would come cheap and be a definite improvement over what we have.

I just want us to keep signing random FA's (goodwin being the #1 on my list), just so I can hop onto falcon life and read the meltdowns

Boy the reaction if we did sign Sidney Rice or Miles Austin.
BTW, do not want either.

By my math, the #Saints should have a little less than $4 million in cap space, but new Bush deal hasn't been processed yet. Maybe $3 mil?
Posted on 4/9/14 at 8:52 pm to Chad504boy
Sure. We could use the cap space.
Posted on 4/9/14 at 8:52 pm to Patrick O Rly
Where is that info coming from?
Also, their math is a little off. If we have a little less than $4m, Bush at most takes $750k over his $1.4m already on the books, but has been reported(unconfirmed) to be less than $2m.
So more than likely we are around $3.5m at worst and around $4m at best.

So the savings are there for if and when you have an injury you can bring in a veteran. As his minimum will be more than an undrafted rookie or other unknown guy. Happy with where we are at, excited to see who we draft, and then seeing who CSP brings in as an undrafted free agent.

We are not doing great with this math stuff, i am seeing a 2 mill range on here.
Posted on 4/9/14 at 8:59 pm to SammyTiger
I'm not even going to pretend that I tried to figure it out. I keep seeing conflicting numbers, and I'm just going with what I see.
Posted on 4/9/14 at 9:02 pm to SammyTiger
If you take the original reported number from the NFLPA like I did($4.8m), add in Bailey($4.8m - $1.25m = $3.55m), take out the contract he replaces(top 51 rule; $3.55m + $420k), we are at $3.97m.
Depending on Bush, we either have a little more or a little less. It shouldn't be less than $3.5m though.
Edit:
If you believe the less than $2m figure reported for Bush, that's $1.9(or less) - $1.4(original tender) = $500k. $4m - $500k - $3.5m.
It could be even lower and potential we have up to $4.5m.
