re: We are 5 picks in, no pass rusher

I made this thread 2 days ago and got ripped a new a-hole.
I was told there were plenty of picks left.
I was also told we didn't need a pass rusher because we have Cam Jordan and that was good enough.

this is true on the draft board, isn't it a good reason to devalue them based on your picks? If you believe there are enough quality guys so you can get a similar player 30 picks later, shouldn't you wait the 30 picks?
That was fine after 32 & 42. The problem came in that they jumped back in with 67 & 76 & went in another direction rather then addressing the need. Contextually, The gap between 76 & 103 is large.
76 is about when that similarly talented players was known to start to evaporate. And right after that they got cleared off the board by notoriously good drafting defensive teams.

Ah, so you can't read.
You said the Saints don't have A pass rusher. That means that you didn't think Cam Jordan was a pass rusher.
Idiot

Possibly. I don't think they agreed though

And I'm happy with the guy we got in comparison honestly. Personally, I'd prefer to double dip with River or Willis, but I think we got an impact player and future starter.
I don't think it will be a weakness this year, nor a position of strength. It will do what it needs to with Okafor, the FAU cat, Kikaha, and now the Miami player.
I also think we'll be bringing pressure via the blitz with Vaccaro near the LoS

But EVERYONE says you put a premium on pass rush, so it would only make sense if the talent level was equal you would pick them first.
Being that they weren't picked first I have to think the teams disagreed with the media on how good these pass rushers really are.
Pass rushers & DBs, yea. Premium positions.
The rushers weren't perfect which is why they were always set to go from about 40-70. Doesn't mean they couldn't immediately help or didn't bring value.
I think the 6th Rd pick is pretty much an admission that they wish they could have added numbers to our DEs earlier

Or he was a higher round player that fell due to off the field concerns. Boom type player in the 6th seems pretty great to me.
I don't think they were planning on taking 2 DEs in the first 3 rounds ever.
We had said we wanted an OT, CB, 3rd down back, edge player, Linebacker and QB before the draft.
We've checked off all but QB

Well there is no doubt they disagreed. Doesn't mean it was right in the end.
4 guys flew off the board in the next 9 picks after 76. Not sure they expected that but those talented guys weren't going to drop another 30 spots,

Nor does it mean you're right either.
Analzone better be healthy though

Also talking of rushers and Taco in particular, the Cowboys took him at 28 and then admitted they reached and had a second round grade, but no one would be left after him so they reached for him.
Payton said they had 4 guys pegged at 32, Tak, Foster, Rammy, and another player still on the board heading into day two. So clearly they didn't see Taco as a first round talent either.
So the top rushers were seen as Garrett (no shot), Thomas (no shot), Barnett (took CB), and Tak (went before 32).
Outside of those 4 none of the others were clear upgrades. Taco may have been an upgrade (borderline on that).
So unless we went DE at 11 (or traded up from 32 which they said was too costly with wanting to keep the picks this year) we were not going to have a clear improvement on the position.
We still got a guy that is near the level of all the other guys people wanted (myself included) at 42. Hell I was even willing to reach for Willis at 32 because I also had DE blinders on.

Yea I'm curious to see how they use A2. I think he could bring some rush ability. He's a really good athlete with good side

Yes I pray for health for all these picks AND the guys we already had.
We deserve a healthy year for once.

I think we've added a good bit of versatility for our Linebackers outside of Klein, who will play in the middle.
I'm most excited about the Vaccaro and Williams combo tbh

Speaking of reaching, Harbaugh just admitted to reaching on a lot of their picks this year, betting on upside.
Gotta say people complained for years about our perceived reaching and said we need value. This draft was super value.
I'm biased but I truly believe we had by far the best value in the draft.

I hope the picks pan out like every year but 2017 has the same traits as many of our previous drafts
Our picks for the most part have always been need-value based, like Lattimore, sprinkled in with luxury picks, like Ram, sprinkled in with trading up to nab a skill position player like Kamara.
I don't remember a lot of reaches. Just what turned out to be poor, poor evaluations

We do better than most in the first two rounds. Problem is we have barely had second rounders. Also nabbed a few great guys in round 3.
But yes many bad picks too, but that is not out of the norm. There are 255 picks each year. How many of those are around 3 years later? It's less than half.
