You could sense the New Orleans Saints were plenty giddy to watch first-round pick linebacker Stephone Anthony strap on the pads for the first time this offseason for Day 3 of training camp at The Greenbrier.

"The best thing about today was that you heard him hitting guys," defensive coordinator Rob Ryan said of Anthony following Saturday's practice session.

quote:

The Saints' rookie middle linebacker excelled during the team's first live 9-on-7 running game drills. Anthony busted through holes consistently, beat blocks and disrupted at least three plays during his reps.

Peat remains work in progress

This sub headline is a nice way to say first-round pick tackle Andrus Peat struggled mightily during individual blocking drills.

Peat lined up at right tackle and couldn't really handle anyone the Saints defensive staff threw at him. Anthony Spencer torched Peat on a spin move. Peat took the very next rep and struggled with Cam Jordan. Later, Parys Haralson, who's been working primarily with the defensive line as an end this camp, beat Peat during the drill.

So looks like Stephone Anthony is stepping up but Peat not so much. Hopefully he can catch on eventually.

Are we ready to label Peat a bust yet?

How long until this guy starts producing?

Unbelievable.

[EDIT: For all who missed it, I was being sarcastic here. Of course he is not a bust yet. I thought that was obvious]

I'm just gonna pretend Anthony is our only 1st rd pick. Peat will be watching a lot of games from the sidelines. He's not beating out Strief anytime soon.

Peat looks like a mammoth of a run blocker but with those tree trunks of legs, he may struggle with his lateral agility.
He has all the potential to be a stud. Maybe not this year though.

Hated everything about this pick. I called it another blunder by this front office. Byrd, galette, sjb,etc someone's gotta be held responsible for the straight retardedness going on in that fo.

Wouldn't be mad if we slid him inside to guard

One practice under pads and you want to call him a bust... Are you retarded? Seriously.

Please keep your negativity relative to Pelicans Talk. You're talking shite about a kid who was picked in the 1st round to be a backup this year and learn behind arguably our best offensive lineman the past 2 seasons.

As for Byrd, let him play this season when he's healthy.

SJB: Hasn't played much at all but under Dennis Allen and sitting/learning behind Browner might prove to be a good pick. Remember, he was being touted as a raw 1st round pick leading up to that draft based almost exclusively on his size. Let it play out this season.

Gallette: Ended up being a thug pos and is no longer on the team. Agreed on this one.

Did you hate the Vaccaro pick as well? How about Breaux being added or CJ Spiller? This FO might have made a few questionable moves, but don't act like they haven't been pulling miracles out of their asses for years.

The only thing about this draft I hated was passing on Jaelen Strong

DeVante Parker won't be some superb #1 receiver we missed out on, book it.

I wish we would have drafted Parker, Dupree or Ray with our first pick.

Ignore him

He's nothing but negativity and brings nothing substantial.

The stuff in the OP was discussed in the TC thread so this was kinda uneeded.

We drafted enough OLBers and Parker is already hurt.

I was on the "wish we traded back and picked up Dupree"...then they picked Kikaha and I'm happy with that.

You're all right, I should ignore him. My wife got me all pissed off. I just want to cut my damn grass and watch training camp videos all day. Too much to ask?

Can you come to my house and cut the grass? It's so fricking hot. I'll let you watch training camp vids all day. I'll even give you a twelve pack.

he can easily be moved inside and would be a beast at G. He is a serious run blocker with pretty fluid feet. He may just be struggling on transitioning to the speed of the NFL, which is fairly common for positions that must react (see WR, QB, OT, DB).

If he continues to struggle next season, a quick transition to G will alleviate a lot of the problems.
