Good:
-Khiry. Dudes a fricking monster. Again, I like Ingram, but I really think Khiry is capable of splitting the load with Spiller
-Eulls. If you told me we had a player named Eulls on our team, I'd call you a fricking liar. He looked really good, though.
-Both young QBs. If Brees goes down, we're fricked. McCown probably doesn't get picked up by another team if we let him go. Keep Grayson and Griffin. If Brees gets hurt for a few games and we are in the playoff hunt, McCown will probably be available
-Hocker. Not that far off on the 50 yard miss. Dead on on the 50 yard make.
-Snead. Didn't do much, but what a catch.
-Peat. Looked good against backups.
-Armstead, Strief, and Unger. One especially studly block from Terron. This is a really good trio. I'm really worried that we could have a bottom 10 OG duo, though.
-Spencer looked a lot more spry than I'd expected. It was against backups, but he looks like he can be a legit contributor.

Bad
-Injuries. frick. None looked that bad, though. I really think Browner just has a bad bruise. No tears or anything.
-Most of the first team defense. I think between Lewis, Browner, and Breaux, they only gave up one catch (Steve Smith's 4 yard first down). Jordan had a pressure. No one else did much of anything. I'm not worried about the young guys (Anthony and Kikaha). They were fine for their first semi-legit action. But our interior line looked bad.
-Outside of the Armstead, Unger, Strief, and Peat group, the rest of the OL looked bad. Harris was awful as he is wont to do. Evans looked bad again. He'll probably be an NFL Hall of Famer, but he looks done. Shameful that we didn't address guard in FA/draft.
-McCown. His numbers look OK because of the one dumpoff. Cooks, Unger, and Armstead did all of the work.
-Backup secondary. This excludes Breaux, who played well before getting hurt. Swann had the INT. Other than that, they seemed confused. No biggie since they were mostly very young. Just something to build on.

For some reason, I really do not want McCown.

on the same play Unger drilled one of their DB's way down field clinching the running room left that Cooks needed.

Did Spiller play tonight? Or have you seen him carry the load for the saints at some other point?

Yeah, he made a great block, but I think we score without it. Unger is a top 5 center that will be huge for us so long as he stays healthy. His injury history is probably the only reason that the Seahawks let him go. Graham probably isn't worth a 1st rounder + elite center that averages ~15 games per season.

Anthony looked good IMO. Kikaha didn't (unless I missed something). I would have put him in the bad category.

Anthony was in decent position most of the time I thought? Kikaha looked out of position and I'm not knocking him at all... helluva of an adjustment for him I guess.

did he play a lot of pass coverage in college? I thought he was mainly a beast rushing the passer.

Did he forget how to play football when he joined the Saints?

He was injured most of last season for the Bills. Before that:
2012: 207 carries, 1,244 yards (6.0 ypc); 43 catches for 459 yards (10.7 ypr)
2013: 202 carries, 933 yards (4.6 ypc); 33 catches for 185 yards (5.6 ypr)

He seems perfectly capable of getting 50-60% of our RB touches.

No

Yes

The 4-3 defensive alignment tonight was interesting. It seems like the staff has been collecting PCs for a 3-4 and many players (kikaha, hicks, jordan, etc) would be a better fit there.

Rufus Johnson looked like an absolute beast tonight for the patriots. Ninkovich 2.0?

He looked OK. I don't mean to rag on him by including him in the general shitty defense category. I saw him make one or two solid stops. I didn't see him do anything wrong, just nothing to stand out.

And yeah, the announcers even brought up that Kikaha played a lot in coverage. That's probably a great decision on our part. We know he's an experienced and talented pass rusher. But if we want to use him as a 4-3 SAM, we need to see him cover some.

Good, thorough breakdown. We are awful at guard is all I have to add. Evans is done, both he & Lelito are liabilities. frick. Bryce Harris isn't even a NFL caliber backup.

yeah, I guess you don't want to tip your hand either in preseason.

I'll bet we run multiple fronts. That is what you have to do in today's NFL anyway right?

Good point. For as bad as the defense looked to start (they looked fine overall in Q2-Q4), they tackled well all game.
