He has the physical skills to play the middle but doesn't seem to have the head for it. He spent a lot of time last year making tackles behind himself instead of in front. Doesn't seem to have the strength to shed blocks to play the strong side. I wonder if they have tried him weak side?

His biggest weakness is in coverage, so I don't think he'd do well

He didn't exactly light the world on fire as a rookie.

wasn't Anthony considered a reach when Saints picked him?
Yes, there were 4 LB's who had mid-2nd round grades: Anthony, McKinley, Hendricks. and Perryman. All the others went in mid-to-late round 2 and are starting for their teams. We picked Anthony in round 1 and he's on the bench.

Harper couldn't cover a tackle-eligible when he left the Saints. Then in 2014 with the Panthers he had 4 INTs and a pick-six. He had 4 INTs in his last 6 seasons with the Saints COMBINED.

He dropped an EASY INT with the Saints THIS YEAR. That aint coaching. It is what it is.

He had one great opportunity. He's not a WR. DBs drop them sometimes. Point remains, the Saints coaches don't get their players in position to make plays.

We picked Kikaha with the 12th pick in the second round. That pick was sandwiched in between McKinney and Eric Kendricks.

surely Kikaha would be contributing if not for his injury in minicamp.

I dunno about Anthony... now I guess I see why we hadn't drafted high at LB before that year. Think about it, they always preached that stuff about having veteran LB's. So they tried the free agent route with Fujita, Vilma, Lofton, Hawthorne, etc. Its one thing to rely on veterans at that spot, I don't have a beef with that. But you can't help but think its a bad reflection on the position coach when you routinely skip over that spot year after year in the draft and then when you do finally use a high pick to upgrade the position you bring in two more veterans the very next year and they are taking up most of the snaps. And one them (Laurinaitis) is slow as frick and is already being benched. At least they sat Laurinaitis down cause I thought for a minute there they had totally fricking lost their minds.

I would be fine sitting him if we had any track record at all of developing defensive personnel. I am also not sold on him finishing his rookie contract without having to learn his 3rd different playbook.

In short no stability, no coaching, no playing time = magical improvement.

2nd defensive coordinator since he was drafter but blame him. That entire coaching staff should be fired alone with the GM. The defense as a whole is sorry and not getting the job done. Everything starts and ends with leadership, don't look at any players but those in position who have made decisions to draft various players or sign some thru free agency. It all starts at the top. MGT should be on notice.

I think 99% agree but the only person to do that is Benson and how on top of the Saints FO is he right now is the great unknown.

IIRC, Kendricks was a late 1st-early 2nd grade. He was the #1rated guy and we took the 2nd/3rd rated guy...

I will, because he didn't play well last year either.

I didn't like the Kikaha pick when we made it and I don't like it now. Major health issues and a 5.0 40 were giant red flags for me.

Still like the pick, not happy with the current. he was productive even against NFL caliber tackles, was over a full year removed from the acl repair, and checked out medically. It was an unfortunate injury that reoccurred.

His 40 time doesn't matter, his short area burst was good, and 'faster' and better gym athletes like bud Dupree were worse than him in pass rushing.
