This team is going to finish below .500 for two straight years and the coach is looking to ditch the team. Perhaps the judge was wrong in his ruling, the owner is senile.

so he wants to run away from the problems he helped create. Sounds about right. This just proves that Payton is full of himself and has lost all the competitive fire he once had. I guess its true that winning the Super Bowl can change you

Sean Payton leaving would be awesome for us, he's not going to rebuild this..: we need a young hungry guy to do so. hopefully we can get something in return for Payton's overrated arse

He was a top three coach in the NFL for his first five years, I agree .

Now he doesn't even know how to call his timeouts on the top side of the two minute warning - I don't understand how somebody can regress so much

Exactly. Another article about what a reporter "thinks" will happen. See how this works? La canfora says he thinks the saints would be open to a trade. Then holder says he "thinks" Payton would consider leaving and that becomes a "news" piece about Payton leaving that appears to have two sources backing it up.

I have no idea if Payton will leave or not but so far I have seen no real evidence that it's happening. Where there's smoke... Sometimes it just means some guy lit up a cigar.

More rampant speculation being passed off as journalism.

Not sure what's dumber. People who write those articles or people posting it repeatedly on here.

I hope the Falcons are dumb enough to fire Quinn and he comes in as Payton's DC

To be fair, it's not like the Saints or their coaches were the beacon of excellence in any of these categories in the past

Shouldn't the headline read "Saints to test options if SP doesn't win enough games"??????????

Having multiple mediocre drafts will do this. I think if we can hit well on the draft next year this team has a chance. That's been the real problem with this team. Football has a ton of turnover and if you can't draft then you're sitting in a depreciating boat.

The New Orleans Times-Picayune's Larry Holder believes Sean Payton will "test his options" this offseason if the Saints do not "show significant improvement."
The team is not going to significantly improve over the final month of the season, so the improvement Holder is talking about may be on an organizational or roster level. New Orleans has been living in cap purgatory for several seasons, and it is not going to get any better next year unless they find some way to reduce Drew Brees' $30 million cap hit. The Saints could save $20 million of that number by trading Brees, but that would leave Payton in the midst of a rebuild in an organization with a shaky ownership situation. It is unlikely Payton wants to go down that road, and it is difficult to see the light getting much brighter at the end of the tunnel without a drastic move. CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reported New Orleans is open to trading their coach, and it would not be surprising if a deal was struck early in the offseason

I mean..if the team doesn't improve, isn't that basically his responsibility?

This is speculation not fact. Don't know why people in this thread take it as so.

Anyways, all that being said, if anyone can't see Payton honestly doesn't give a shite anymore on the sidelines then you're blind. This was the guy who always put discipline out on his team and tried to avoid character issue players. Since he's won the SB that's all he's dealing with. Guys like Browner who had an altercation on the sideline with Allen would be cut the next day with old Payton. He's a hypocrite and he just doesn't care anymore. It's obvious he wants out of NO and Brees is not going to stay here if Payton leaves. He's either going to retire or want a trade.
