I actually think our defensive depth chart looks good if a few players will get healthy. If Lewis and bryd are healthy, I actually like that defense.

I don't like Peat at G.

And if we do that, who plays RT?
Strief did not have a good season.
He's not athletic enough anymore.

Well Payton stressed again that he sees Peat's best fit at tackle, but then said they'll do what they can to get the best five on the field.

Then everyone jumps as if that means Peat is the one moving.

Fact is it's the offseason and guys will be tried at different spots. It happens every year with almost every young player (the vets are usually "set" in their spot, though some move around too).

Peat should win rt with a full year of conditioning. He looked good filling in as tackle, so I expect him to take a big step in terms of consistency.

Question is, can strief even play guard? If not LG is looking really questionable if one of the udfa can't snag it from kelemete.. Lelito fits better as a RG so I imagine he will fit fine there.

He's been around long enough to "get by" at guard at the very least. Plus it would help cover up his obvious struggle with speed rushers.

The biggest thing may be adjusting his passing set, since he is so used to playing olay with the defender instead of actually making contact with him.

If I'm being realistic, csp holds onto his vets too much to the detriment of the team. I fully expect peat to be LG so strief can start at RT...

Nice so we used the 13th pick on a mediocre at best Gaurd. I do agree he looked better at tackle. Just don't see another option than a move to gaurd.

The report coming out on Peat was he was soft. I think the pick was an absolute bust IMO.

Hope I'm wrong though.

He was playing fine at left guard

his play at LG was much better than his play at RT... i just think that some have a problem with us essentially drafting a G at 13... i say frick it... if it makes your team better, who gives a shite??

I agree with you. He was blowing holes open in our running game at LG in the Falcons Thursday Night Football game. If he does not get injured, we have a solidified left side of our line. This would be one less concern and this discussion of him being a bust, would not exist. For short memories, he got injured.

New Orleans Saints OT Andrus Peat could miss 4 weeks with MCL sprain, per report

New Orleans Saints rookie offensive tackle Andrus Peat will miss about four weeks after spraining his MCL on Thursday night, according to a report from the NFL Network's Rand Getlin.

Peat left Thursday's game in the first quarter and was replaced by journeyman backup Tony Hills, who was signed just nine days earlier.

The medial collateral ligament (MCL) is one of four ligaments in the knee. The report said Peat suffered a Grade 2 sprain, which is in the middle range of the MCL injury scale.

Peat, the Saints' first-round draft pick out of Stanford, had started the last two games in place of starter Terron Armstead.

Armstead resumed practice on a limited basis this week and is thought to be close to returning from a knee injury. The Saints (2-4) beat the Atlanta Falcons 31-21 on Thursday and don't play again until facing the Indianapolis Colts on Oct. 25.

The Saints offensive line has battled injuries in 2015. Guard Jahri Evans missed three games with a knee injury before returning Thursday. The Saints' other starting guard, Tim Lelito, missed his first start Thursday after suffering a shoulder injury a week earlier in Philadelphia.

Saints quarterback Drew Brees said Hills played well in his Saints debut.

A former Texas Longhorn, the 30-year-old Hills has been with 10 NFL organizations in his career.

"Hey Tony, I'm Drew, nice to meet you. Now you're (playing) left tackle for about 57 minutes of that game," Brees joked afterwards. "He did a great job, an awesome job. It's a credit to him and his preparation."

Unless we have some unknown sleeper on the team to play RT Peat is our guy.
Strief is a quality back up and thats all at this point. There is no fan that has backed up Strief more than me but from what I saw last year he no longer looks to be a starter at any position on the o-line.

We will see very soon what the Saints think when mini camp starts and who they have as the starting five.

Ideally, Peat plays at RT. If the Saints don't have two viable guard options, say goodbye to a productive run game. Watch the pocket get pushed on passing plays. At least with a solid left side of the line, we have an area to run the ball to. And we know that we can chip on the right to give Drew the extra fraction of a second on passing plays. The situation is not ideal.

He won't win anything if Strief doesn't lose his job.

Peat at RT, Strief at G.

The Saints and Streif have no intention on doing this

When did Strief lose his job?
He graded out above average on PFF, so I don't get the hate. One bad game against JJ Watt and he's aparently done.

Peat was terrible at guard. Rated one of the worst In the league actually. But sure lets continue to play a guy we drafted in the first round out of his natural position. Meanwhile Strief will continue to get burnt off the edge like toast every other play. Hopefully one of our UDFAs this year will take care of guard.
