But Brees remains unsigned

Holy shite what goes on in the front office when they go to work everyday for this just to be sitting on the GM's desk

Right around what I figured. I think I was pegging it at 3 years and $8 mil per.

So that's how we fit Kruger and now we only have to REALLY worry about Brees, and then possibly Fairley and Kruger depending on how they play.

And then we should still have room for a few other FAs, at least two of good stock.

I wonder what's easier to do:

Extend a center who doesn't seem to have penny pinched us for a very easy to structure contract worth about $21 mil total.

Or

Extend a QB who has one of if not the best agent in the game who is going to do everything he can to maximize Brees' deal, which will be worth at least $21 mil per year. In other words he'll make in one year what Unger is making in three.

Nice!

an extension @7mil/yr keeps him at his current 8th highest paid center.

By comparison, All-Pro Alex Mack who has started declining is getting paid #2 at 9mil/yr

We're the only team that seems to have trouble paying their QB that absolutely deserves it, but obviously Brees is the one that's penny pinching

Brees and the higher ups already have a mutual agreement. Just not being made public. Coming soon.. Brees isn't going anywhere.

What are you basing this off of?

A really smart extension that locks up this position for the next couple of years. Nice salary as well.

It's more likely than poor, old Loomis being bullied by Brees and Condon

Didn't say that at all. He could always tell his agent to give a little. He doesn't.

What are the odds of him holding up to earning his pay through age 34? I like the guy and the numbers don't overpay but the odds of more dead money seem kinda high. But I'm getting increasingly skeptical of any contracts into mid-30s. I'm also tiring of the whole kick the can down the road approach of the front office. Again, not dissing the signing, just hate the position. Better than $9mil for a TE that might not be ready to star the season or ever be the same again (Graham).
