Aren't most of the Guarantees usually already paid out by the final year of the deal?

Also with the way contracts are skyrocketing Osemele signed a 5 year 58 million dollar deal, and Alex Mack got 5 years 47 million last offseason...I think we got a discount. We also avoided overpaying on the open market.

As to whether he will earn the money...that really depends on Loomis/Ireland upgrading both OG spots next offseason. If we can put people on both sides of him that can carry their weight (either draft, FA, or both) It will make his life just a little easier and in that situation I fully expect him to earn most of his contract.

I don't know Blu. We have solid LT no LG no RG and a about to retire RT.
Kinda thin to be playing hardball with a pretty good center with not even a decent backup at the position on the roster.

We are thinner than thin right now on the o-line.

yeah, I'm not saying it wasn't a good deal. More just the idea that the whole issue came about from not drafting a quality center or guard in past years.

Nicks left in 2012. They brought in Grubbs. He wasn't terrible but he never earned the pay of the contract he got IMO. A free agent swing and miss.

I think they were right not to pay Goodwin at age 33 in 2011. The problem was making due with dLP, a downgrade.

In the entire Payton era they have drafted one center in the 5th Rd, Matt Tennant.

Strief was pegged as guard out of college. Outside of him in the Payton era they have only drafted 2 guards: 2007 3rd Rd Alleman and 2012 6th Rd Tiller.

Sure you had the best middle interior OL with Jahri, Goodwin, and Nicks. But to not invest more than one 3rd, 5th, and 7th Rd picks in these three positions over 11 years is the root cause of the problems now faced there IMO.

I agree with everything you said but I don't regard Grubbs a swing and a miss in free agency

Not a bust in performance swing and miss but paying him $22.1 million over 3 years is. You are paying for premier All Pro production at that price.

Didn't say that at all. He could always tell his agent to give a little. He doesn't.

He's the executive head of the NFLPA, bargaining or taking a paycutt drastically undermines his position in fighting for the most for the players with the NFLPA.

Incorrect.
Jahri and Nicks should be included in that number of guards drafted. If Payton gets the misses on his record he should get the hits too.
