The Saints have agreed to a 2-year deal with former Chargers LB Manti Te'o, per source, which ESPN's Dan Graziano reported was coming. The 26-year-old is coming back from a season-ending torn Achilles suffered last September. But when healthy, he has started 34 of 38 career games while serving as a middle linebacker, signal caller and co-captain. It will be interesting to see how the Saints plan to use him along with recently-signed MLB A.J. Klein and last year's starting MLB Craig Robertson -- both of whom have the versatility to move around.

I don't hate it considering he had to be cheap. But I'm guessing we are not planning on spending a first rounder on a middle linebacker now. Which is cool with me.

2 year deals generally mean they are 1 year deals at best, easily able to be waived at least after year 1.

I was saying it for the chicken littles that will be poopooing this like crazy.

It's not a big deal. Low risk since he is easily waivable most likely. Hopefully it works out.

Heisman finalist who was a first round pick and you ask why? Jesus dude, it's not as if they threw him a 20mill contract. This is someone that has obvious talent, so it's all a matter of staying healthy and maximizing it. If not then it's a cheap gamble that has non appreciable negative effect.

If the Saints keep #32 I could see them getting a LB if the value is right

If anything this is likely a depth move

I believe he's decent in coverage, and he averaged 110 tackles per 16 starts, or 98 tackles per 16 games played.

He's not a blitzing backer (or at least wasn't used as such), only getting 1.5 sacks.

So he isn't a world beater but he can fill in for an injury or to rest a guy and play well enough.

He's there for depth, and maybe competing for a starting spot. He was excellent at Notre Dame, outside of the NC game against Bama when the whole team looked like trash. He was solid for the Chargers just could not stay on the field.

It might be the homer in me, but I love the pick up, and it fits perfect with what our FA period has been so far: cheap, solid role players on defense (Teo, Klein, Okafor). If these guys contribute, next season should be special.

He's the definition of LOW RISK HIGH REWARD. I agree this is what we are getting; however, he could very well be so much more. If he's not, then no big deal at all. He is a solid player that's been dealing with injuries.
