This is what I was thinking but was really going to ask the question since I don't really fully understand restructures. Can someone explain?

A restructure typically means that a player's base salary is cut to a lower amount and the remainder is paid out immediately as a signing bonus and spread out over the remaining years of the contract.

Example: Drew Brees has a 10,750,000 base salary; the Saints and Drew could agree to restructure it down to the minimum of 955,000 and then the remaining of his former base salary 9,795,000 would be paid out as a signing bonus and divided over the remaining years of his contract (3 years). That would free up [9,795,000 minus 3,265,000 (which is 1/3 of 9,795,000)] = 6,530,000 in cap space for this year.

A salary cut is when a player agrees to reduce his salary; typically for some upfront money (as in this case) or to avoid being released and having to find another job.

Where are all of the sportswriters and radio hosts praising him for taking a pay cut in order to help the team?

Or does that only happen when QBs don't actually take a pay cut but idiots confuse a restructure with a cut?

I don't know what you are getting at, but Bunkley took a pay cut because it was in his best interest to do so. He wouldn't have fared better on the open market most likely.

Having said that, I'm glad he chose to make his new salary with the Saints vs. with another team.

He's saying that when Brady allegedly took a "pay cut to help the team", he actually did a restructure and got more money. The talking heads made him out to be the second coming of Mother Teresa.

"Katrina cap"

"I would be thanking Bunkley, not loomis. Good for y'all. Sorry arse GM can't stay a million under the cap to save his life so deducts pay from his loyal partners "

pretty cool on Bunkley's part to do that. shows he wants to win a SB and thinks we can do it.

I don't think that's going to happen, unless it's a Brady type of "pay cut" (most people, other than the media types, would call it a restructured contract).
I'm thinking Colston is next to be approached to take a cut...that's my guess.

A restructure is not necessarily a paycut but a paycut is a type of restructure.

A square is a rectangle, but a rectangle is not a square.
