re: Saints Get Down to the Final 53 (barring further moves)

Richardson sucked all preseason. Never had his named called in a good way in camp or preseason.
That said I thought it'd be Tapp as another big body.

I wouldn't get too attached. We'll likely find another TE during cuts or bring back Johnson when he gets healthier.

I think Tapp could come back. He seems like a good fit, and nobody was knocking on his door when we signed him.

You know I actually called Tapp getting cut because of the guaranteed salary rule.
So yes he will likely be back after week one when his salary won't be guaranteed.
Can't believe I forgot that.

What a sad roster.
I'd keep Brees, Breaux, Unger, Armstead...maybe Jordan.
The rest are all upgrade-able.

Cooks?
Nah, I'm tired of that midget too.

Can't believe I was tripping on Tapp being cut when I called it a few days ago:
Mabry looks like that young guy, and will likely be on the PS again this year.

Something to keep in mind also when looking at how money gets guaranteed, he may not make the "final" 53 week one, but would be resigned week 2 when his salary wouldn't be guaranteed.
They'll possibly keep a young guy instead week 1 so the cheaper salary is guaranteed and then pay Tapp week to week.
This is what we did with Meach a couple of years ago.

Barnes surprised me. Isn't another guard an almost necessity now? The demise of the guard position from very elite to searching for someone who is even up to starter grade has me more pissed at the fo than anything in recent memory. So you hit two homeruns (Evans Nicks) right off the bat. Matt Tennant and Andrew Tiller do not constitute responsible team stocking over a ten year period. I'm wondering if they just think too highly of their own ability to make something out of nothing, or little.

I think they believe they had more to do with it than Kromer did, and that is the problem. Kromer was a great OL coach and the middle of the line was where he developed his best players and OT was decent enough.
In the end, this OL has gotten worse developmentally at every position since he's left with the exception of LT, where I think it has more to do with Armstead just being a beast.
It is Les Milesesque arrogance by this FO and HC.

I'll probably regret saying this but for now I'm glad we kept Finnegan.
corners are all awfully young and not all that experienced besides him.
I kind of thought Harper could be a surprise cut... not really seeing him do much physically on the field.
He use to be good at blitzing and playing closer in the box but I really wonder about that now. Oh well.. best of luck (nervous farts follow).

Harper has been solid all preseason.
And yeah we do need an experienced CB and Finnegan fits the bill.
Also right now Breaux and Williams are the starters on the outside, and if one goes down we'd have to rely on a rookie without Finnegan (and hell Williams is practically a rookie).
The nickel spot is fine because we have Vaccaro and Bell that can play there too, but outside corner is scarily inexperienced outside of Finnegan.

I can't believe we're keeping 3 QBs
Posted on 9/4/16 at 8:16 am to Breesus
I can.
Grayson isn't ready to be the full-time backup, but still has the potential to be the future. Very few teams with a 30+ y/o QB don't have a young project QB on their roster. Denver carried TWO last year and won the SB, so..
I don't think we cut anyone who would be worth keeping over Grayson.

McCown is one of those guys who will phone it in during preseason because he knows his role, and then has to replace Brees in a pinch one time and can complete 80 percent of his passes and is a nice INT in the end zone away from beating a Super Bowl team on the road.
I mean, Grayson might turn into nothing but a wasted pick. But I'd just as soon keep him than add another shite stop-gap OL who is inactive every week and released in the offseason.

That Defensive End crop is worrisome.

So with Tull getting the axe, is the 2015 draft shaping up to mirror the 2014 draft?
Posted on 9/4/16 at 12:44 pm to BigPerm30
Because we got rid of one guy of nine draft picks?
Posted on 9/4/16 at 12:52 pm to BigPerm30
Peat, Anthony, Kikaha, Williams, Grayson, Davison, and Murphy are all on the roster. Tull may be back on the PS.
Let's not overreact to cutting a 5th round fricking pick here.
