Call me crazy, but Peyton Manning to the Denver Broncos should be up there damn near the top, if not at the top.

This was a deliberate snub planned by Tom Condon. He played everyone. The Saints got suckered in by publicly proclaiming his greatness. This will be used against the team in negotiations.

Carried by a great defense. Plus he was already a Hall of famer when he went to Denver. Brees had his hall of fame career after the signing.

Yep. Prior to Brees the Saints had one playoff win.

Surprised? They never give us props. It's fine I love how underground we are.

The entire last season. You know, the one where they won a super bowl. If you take that away you just have a super bowl appearance vs a super bowl win for Brees.

Damn, I guess that Super Bowl win didn't happen. Might as well take some of Tom Brady's away while we're at it.

Defenses and what the team had done
prior to Manning:
2011 - #20 YPG, #24 PPG, #10 sacks, AFC west champs: lost division round (1-1 playoff)
Manning:
2012 - #2 YPG, #4 PPG, #1 sacks, AFC west champs: lost division round (0-1 playoff)
2013 - #19 YPG, #22 PPG, #13 sacks, AFC west champs: lost superbowl (2-1 playoff)
2014 - #3 YPG, #16 PPG, #9 sacks, AFC west champs: lost division round (0-1 playoff)
2015 - #1 YPG, #4 PPG, #1 sacks, AFC west champs: won superbowl (3-0 playoff)
they had top 3 YPG defense in 3/4 years, top 4 PPG defense in 2 of the 4 years, #1 sack defense in 2 of the 4 years.
that is FAR greater than what this team has fielded with Brees.
Manning was a first ballot HOFer before he even put on a Broncos jersey. He was already a GREAT player and went to a team that just made the playoffs (albeit a bit lucky), so that's why people don't put him as high on a "top free agent signings ever" list...because he was arguably one of the greatest players already and going to a halfway decent team.
Brees went into a shitfest and turned a complete franchise around while posting up numbers in a 10 year span that NOBODY in history has matched.

Right. Because that's the point. Do you always purposely misinterpret the meaning of what people say? I know you aren't that stupid. It isn't even worth the time to articulate how you are wrong. Because I know you already know better.

So, the Saints being above .500 and making 10 playoff appearances in the last 30 years just like...........never happened ????????????
The only thing that counts is the first 20 years ????
The last 30 years was a mirage ????????????
He DID say historically.

The fact they said Deon Sanders to SF over Brees pissed me off. Brees and White are the top 2 all-time and 3rd isn't anywhere near those 2. It honestly just depends on what you look at. Both won 1 SB with their team, put up monster stats, and have been on several all-pro teams. I'd give the edge to Brees. When you list the greatest Packers of all-time, Reggie White is in that discussion with guys like Favre and Starr. When you list the greatest Saints of all-time, Brees is #1 by a large margin. Never has one player made the type of impact to a city like Brees has. The guy has made the talent around him look way better than what they were. If we had a defense around him his whole time in NOLA, he'd have atleast 3 rings and there's no discussion here.

I'm not even sure why there's a real argument here, but whatevs. Looks like you've stirred the hornet's nest with this. So let's break this down:
Let's take away the qualifiers: he's been the best free agent signing in the history of the NFL, because he instantly legitimized a team that, historically, had very little playoff success beforehand. I think a lot of people don't remember how big of a deal that was at the time (and how pissed of Miami fans were as well...the beginning and end of the Saban era lol). So, he's easily the best FA signing of the NFL, simply because of the position and longevity he's enjoyed since at his elite skill level at the most important position in modern football. Period.
Yup, it is. However, New Orleans has, recently, enjoyed some of the higher local market ratings for a bit LINK. That being said, they're not the highest rated team when it comes to the nationally televised events, but they're far from the worst. LINK. I wish there was more info on the latest year for local market TV, but the overall picture isn't exactly bleak (unlike the Vikings). So, it's a small market but carries a heavy local TV market ratings skew, so that's a good sign for the NFL that it carries heavy locally and does an average to above average rating for their nationally televised spots.
If you'd say historically bad from the inception of the team, then I'd say yes.....I don't think anyone can deny that, statically, the team has had a longer run of not being successful than being successful from a postseason POV. But, to say we're an afterthought, I think that's probably a little too far on the other side of the fence if you mean from a national perspective, simply because the Brees signing has proved that the team is more than an afterthought from a competition POV, and also from a TV market POV. I don't think you understand that in other parts of America, the Saints are probably more well known than you think, and certainly more well known than a lot of the more recent expansion teams....shite, half of America probably can't tell you what city the Rams are in right now.
So, I'd say that we're in the middle of the pack somewhere, and "historically bad" probably should be more like "historically average".
