Haven't really kept up with Mauti's career but I know he was a prime leader on the Penn State team that had to go through that Sandusky mess. Also think he became a starting LB as a freshman while there.
Played against him in high school and always heard he was a beast after one summer in which he went from regular good athlete to best player around. Some people claimed he hit the juice but it was never confirmed.
All i can say is he was the most intense player I ever played against. No one and I mean NO ONE talked more trash than Mauti and I played against a bunch of schools that had players with "swag." He was incredibly fast. Not just man that dude is fast for a white guy, but damn that dude is just fast. We were running pitch sweeps away from him and he was still making tackles in the backfield. Take this evaluation with a HUGE grain of salt as it was only high school ball and I'm by no means an elite athlete or talent evaluator.
I think he has had some injury history with his knee (???) but I hope he makes the squad. Then while I watch the Saints I will be able to tell my friends "I attempted to block that guy in high school."
