The Saints would be smart to trade Brees right now to Arizona, get more picks and draft a young QB.
They aren't close to a Super Bowl even with Brees, so why not get a head start on your rebuild now!
Brees had a no trade clause put in. Not sure how many times it has to be stuff
And head start with the rebuild . We've been rebuilding for 2 seasons now

ask yourself who you trust to properly train a replacement QB, drew or the coaching staff we have?
Ask yourself, what possible motivation would Brees have to groom someone that quite literally wants to take his job?
I'm not saying not to take a QB, but this "grooming" nonsense is fantasy. You take someone at 11, they damn well better be starting year 2 at the latest.

because brees is a class act and a nice guy, he likes to teach and IMHO wouldn't see it as training someone to "steal his job" but rather teach a young guy the ropes and help him to be the best he can be at the game.
drew has a true love of the game and isn't as petty and selfish as most athletes are, he can retire tomorrow and live well so its not about the money for him at all. sure he wants to get paid his due but he isn't going to see it as a competition he needs to avoid helping the guy as some selfish premadonna jackwad like arron rogers would.
maybe I could be wrong, but I see drew as a good mentor and can coach and groom a guy to be his replacement without seeing it as a negative.
drew knows he only has 2-3 years left to play at the most and I hope he could stay on for another year or two after that as our backup QB to whoever takes his place and continue helping them be the best they can be.

By from his own mouth and his own autobio not when it comes to helping the back ups.
You should look it up. You will find nothing he has ever said to back up your point that he will help train a BU to be a starter.

You should let him know this, because he's saying he's playing to 45

That's the funniest thing I've ever read on here

I'm fine with riding with Brees until he retires, and accepting there will be a huge turnover when he goes. I think Payton leaves when Drew does, and we're going to have multiple seasons of turmoil before we get an identity again.
I'm totally in on getting the players NOW to make one last run, before it happens. I posted that we don't need to waste anymore draft picks on QB like Grayson, as this could have been a starter at another position.
All that said, I didn't consider Watson dropping to us as possible. This would be the only exception to that- I think Brees has another 3-4 years, and Watson could gear up behind him in that time.

Didn't read the thread but I'm willing to bet he will definitely be available. At this point it is still debatable if he even goes in the first round.
We're in the final push with Brees. So unless and overwhelming QB value presents itself I don't see it in the 1st.
The highest QB I might predict is Peterman in the 3rd or 4th

It has nothing to do with grooming his predecessor. It's more about giving the predecessor the opportunity to observe an all time great in terms of his preparation, study habits & attention to detail. It's well documented that Brett Favre didn't mentor Aaron Rodgers because he had no desire to do so but Rodgers credits a lot of his success to be able to observe Favre's approach to preparing as a key to his own success.
Aaron Rodgers on learning from Brett Favre (1:40 mark)
Brett Favre on mentoring Aaron Rodgers
I really like Favre's honesty in this interview. It really wasn't his job to mentor Rodgers. It was ultimately up to Aaron to be a sponge & soak up all the knowledge he could from simply observing which he obviously did. The same thing would apply here in a situation if the team were to draft a predecessor to Brees. As an organization, you want to draft a QB not only who possesses the physical tools to play the position but one who also would understand the importance of trying to emulate the preparation habits & leadership qualities of a future Hall of Famer.

I just really hope they don't take Chad Kelly in a later round. Do not want.

Folks...If Lamar Jackson is the pick tonight please don't burn this board down. As you can see the majority of posters on this board still need a ton of training when it comes to evaluating potential draft eligible quarterbacks

Checks thread for bumped comments
Comment still holds up. Yes!
This bump may be premature though. QBs are always hard to predict. Kirk Cousin ended up better than RG3, but that wouldn’t have been predicted after thier first year.

I'd rather build up the team. Then if we have a rookie QB later on, they don't have to win the game.

That's the point of the bump. If the Saints take a QB early don't melt and let it play out. Could be a great pick a few yrs down the road
