If Watson were to drop to the 11th pick, how would you all feel if the Saints were to nab him up over a defensive player?

I'd like it only if we traded Drew for a shite load of picks afterwards.

considering we still need a lot of help on defense probably not too well.

nothing against Watson, I think he's a good player.

but taking a QB in the mid or late rounds would make sense I think.

It depends on what you think is more important, building for future or winning now.

I wouldn't mind either way. We are close to being a playoff team and we do need D help, but Watson is so good to me I think we should grab him if available.

I think we should trade BC IF he is unhappy for some picks or d player(s).

But I'm no NFL GM..

Screw just picks this team better get an IMPACT defensive player in the trade ie. Watt level type player plus a couple of first round picks. Other than that Mickey shouldn't entertain it.

Hell no. Not time to draft a QB in the 1st yet.

If Watson is the guy, then you take him.

Franchise/elite QBs are both hard to find and usually able to mask a lot of weaknesses and drag their teams to contention alone, but it's just that the Saints have done an exceptional job being historically awful on defense these last few years.

I think it would be an excellent pick and in 2-3 years being taught by drew, I think he "could be" our quarterback of the future.

those people who say no need to understand, you are not getting a franchise quarterback in FA so in 1-2 or, only if we are super lucky, 3 yrs when drew is gone, do you want us to be relegated to 10 more years of bobby hebert and steve waslsh type quarterbacks leading this team?

The problem with this is that no one knows if DeShaun is a franchise QB, and I guarantee you there will be some kid (maybe even 2 or 3) that looks exactly like DeShaun next year, and the year after, and the year after that. None of those kids will be sure things either, but we have a sure thing at QB right now. It simply makes no sense to bail on that for a future QB who may or may not pan out, when a good defense could put us in a position to win right now.

I'm not saying bail on Drew, but the FO should draft Watson if they truly believe he is the guy.

New England drafted SIX quarterbacks while they had Tom Brady. Even if you have your guy, that doesn't mean you stop looking

bottom line is time is up, there is no more wait till next year to start training a "true" replacement for drew.

ask yourself who you trust to properly train a replacement QB, drew or the coaching staff we have?

think about that...................

now granted we can go all out on Dline and finally have a hope to get a defense that can hold other teams below 30-45 points a game, that would be a refreshing change for once.

but with drew we have a great boat that is perfect for our needs but it has a hole in the hull that cant be fixed (old age) and is sinking. do you polish the decks so it the most beautiful boat or do you start looking for another boat so your not left neck deep in the ocean.

we can draft Watson and still get our Dline help in RD2 & 3 in the draft and then FA as well

If he is there at 11 I am willing to bet the Saints could finally find that elusive trade partner for the spot.

I want him. Once Brees throws for 73k. He will retire. Saints need G, DE, CB and LB. Saints get a DE and G in FA. CB in 2nd rd unless top CB is there in 1st rd. I want Watson bad.

Interesting question. Without Brees, the Saints are just horrendous.

The defense, the secondary in particular, is atrocious. They were just abysmal, albeit they did suffer through injuries. They gave up a plethora of first downs, I believe ranked last or close to last in sacks, and didn't force any turnovers.

That being said, Brees has one or two seasons left? I wouldn't be opposed to locking in a franchise quarterback for the future. Is Watson that guy? I don't know. Would we have to get him with the 11th pick? I don't know. I've seen projections ranging from #1 to the Browns to the 2nd round.

Unless some crazy things happen the first draft night and the Saints miss out on their top target(s), I just can't realistically see them going with anyone not on the defensive side of the ball.

Who knows though. I've scratched my head more times than not with their recent draft choices....

You really think that? I would say 3-4 years left.

If he was there at 11, it wouldn't be the worst pick they could make. This would be assuming better targets like Foster and Barnett are already gone.
