You really think that? I would say 3-4 years left.

He has stated that he is taking it one season at a time. So, one or possibly two seasons with the Saints? Yeah, I just can't see him playing past that. Remember, he's 38 years old.

Check out this article and take from it what you want:

He's stated that he wants to play well into his 40's several times

If the Saints don't show improvement in putting a team around him this year, he's going to play for someone else as a FA

wouldn't totally hurt my feelings because I feel like we are totally fricked when Drew leaves.

One position Id trust SP's judgement on is QB. He wouldn't draft him otherwise if he didn't feel he was the guy. Id be ok with it

We have a short sighted, what can you do for me lately fanbase. They would revolt short term, then would come around when they realize Brees isnt immortal

The problem with this is that no one knows if DeShaun is a franchise QB, and I guarantee you there will be some kid (maybe even 2 or 3) that looks exactly like DeShaun next year, and the year after, and the year after that. None of those kids will be sure things either, but we have a sure thing at QB right now. It simply makes no sense to bail on that for a future QB who may or may not pan out, when a good defense could put us in a position to win right now.

This. Teams that use early 1st on QBs actually need that guy now. Teams looking down the line to feel guys out or groom for future do so in later rounds. It would be moronic for the saints to pick a QB in the 1st. Period

No one knows if any QB is a franchise QB or sure thing. You can approach any potential draftee with the same skepticism. People thought Alex Smith was better than Aaron Rodgers

I mean, the best QB in the world was a 1st rd pick that sat behind a HOF QB for 3 seasons. We might have our QB now, but this team isnt as equipped to compete as people think. For three seasons this has been the narrative

I'd rather build up the team. Then if we have a rookie QB later on, they don't have to win the game.

He has not shown any signs of slowing down. He just turned 38, so next season he will be 38. So, 1-2 means he will play until he is 39 (turning 40 if he makes it late into playoffs if you want to be picky). I think he can play until he is 41 or older unless he incurs a serious injury. Brady will be 40 at the beginning of next season. Ready to toss him out?

Brees has 2-3 years more of elite play left in him.

The time to finally give this man a defense is NOW.

We also have the entire left side of our offensive line locked up for the next 3 years in Armstead, Peat, and Unger. Get yourself a G this year and we'll have a pretty damn great offensive line.

Strief played great this season, and I think Kelemete can step in for him at the end of the day while also providing depth

I wouldn't be mad at all if they did this.

Watson would excel with this defense

Why don't you people understand that if Watson is a franchise QB, we'd have at least 10 years to get the defense straightened out?

we've drafted several as well... just not in the first round. Have the Patriots drafted first round QBs?

I'm all for a first round QB if we are close right now as a team with Brees at QB getting to and making a run in the playoffs.

If not I hope we exhaust every avenue to improve the team while we have him.

No offense but you folks have a very short memory. This defense is horrible. This team is not even close to being competitive even with a HOF Q.B. on the roster
still in his prime. The window of opportunity is NOW. We have a couple of seasons to build this team through the draft and free agency as quick as possible before
Brees' time is up and be looking for someone in the meantime. If you let the o-line and defense continue to disintegrate no Q.B. on this planet will be able to pull us out of the hole we've dug.

If you take Watson or any QB, you still have the rest of the draft and FA to address needs. That 1 pick isnt making or breaking this team and tilting it towards contender.

Also, Tampa has $84 mil in cap space, Carolina has $57 mil. ATL will be coming off a SB with about the same amount as us to spend in the $30 mil range. Im not saying dont try and compete, but a slight eye to the future wouldn't be a bad idea. Our division has some young teams that are close to competing for the foreseeable future.
