A superbowl, 3 playoff berths, 2 separate 13-3 seasons, and the best Saints football anyone has ever seen? We were set up to be a dynasty under Payton and Williams before Goodell decided to butt frick our entire franchise to make a PR showing about million dollar athletes who have concussions in the face of bullshite lawsuits by whiney overgrown children.

What a train wreck!

Here's my thing: the defense never looks ready and they don't play hard(for him). They are a reflection of their coach and Ryan clearly can't scout an offense and put together a game plan.

Look at Atlanta. They really don't have much talent on the D side of the ball but they play better because of coaching. Ryan is not effective, and I will absolutely say that really all the coordinators need to go or "find new jobs."

Lots of problems and this is one of them.

And that's all because of GW?

I'll give him 2009, but statistically that defense was below average minus the turnovers. 2010 was solid, but the turnovers dropped drastically and you remember how the playoffs went. 2011 was just horrid, hardly any turnovers, and pretty much everyone figured out that all GW knew how to do was blitz, and not creatively at that. Say all you want about the San Fran game, but at least the offense was playing a top tier defense, and brought it in the second half. Our defense made Smith look like Montana down the stretch.

Yeah. Totally 100 the defenses fault that game.

Never said it was all on the defense. But like I said. their defense and their offense. Who had the greater challenge?

Discussing the idea of Gregg Williams coming back is a waste of time. He's not and many of us were beyond thrilled for him to leave after his shitty defense couldn't produce pressure or turnovers. Then add all the bounty crap.

Who knows how Spags could have been. He didn't get a very fair shake in his one year during a very tumultuous season. But he still sucks now so I would say it would be about the same.

Dennis Allen is well regarded in this league and I am curious to see if the D will go about a new look with his leadership. He has a 6 game audition.

One question I do have is why did we go away from a 3-4 to a 4-3? Were't we primarily a 3-4 in Ryan's first season? What changed?

At least the defense could have kept it competitive.

They had a bad offensive game, that doesn't mean we let the defense off the hook.

Gregg Williams was a great D coordinator. Always has been. We didn't have great players, but he did the best with what he had. He brought pressure and got beat by it a lot because we had some crappy players.

We were 26th in defense under Gibbs in 2008, then went to 20th, 7th & 13th under Williams. Then we fired him and went to 31st. Bye the way, check out one of the rosters he had to work with. Williams did a good job.

LDT Remi Ayodele
RDT Sedrick Ellis
RDE Will Smith
WLB Danny Clark/Jo-Lonn Dunbar

SLB Scott Shanle
LCB Jabari Greer
RCB Tracy Porter
SS Roman Harper
FS Malcolm Jenkins

He's known as an up and coming type of coach, but had some bad stints in Denver and Oakland. He doesn't have much to work with. We just need better players.

Whether it's Dennis Allen or someone else in the interim-safe to assume it's Allen will by default be able to coach better than Rob Ryan and the people saying we have lame players on defense that's bogus. Byrd is a skilled guy but in the wrong scheme. So is Lewis hopefully he's healthy and albeit young we have a capable linebacker core when healthy and together. Up front is where the problems begin though we are bad on the d line there's no pass rush
