Kraft says he hopes Malcolm Butler comes back. Says intention isn’t to trade him.

quote:

If there is a trade to be made for Malcolm Butler, Robert Kraft is hoping that it doesn’t happen.

The Patriots owner said on Monday at the league meetings that “the intention” is not to trade the cornerback to the Saints or anyone else and that he hopes Butler returns to New England.

“We sure hope so,” Kraft said. “We have an offer sheet out to him and I know he has the ability to go out in the market and get someone to sign him and then we either match it and get the draft, the first-round draft pick. I hope he’s with us and signs his offer sheet and plays for us. … But there are a lot of people involved that.”

Butler recently visited the Saints and there is interest in getting a deal done. But if New Orleans signs Butler to an offer sheet, it would have to send the 11th overall pick in the draft back to New England. The Saints would likely much rather agree on a deal that involves lesser compensation.

If we get butler that's nice. If not, that's ok too. We'll keep 32. Don't need to overpay

Good, keep pics draft defense. They can trade down and add additional picks. They can find starters in 2nd or 3rd rd especially with this defense.

I really don't even care at this point. Either make the trade happen or say he's stay in NE. This shite is getting old.

He's got to be batting under .100 with Saints news.

yeah, saints and pats are probably on a timeline to get this done at point A or maybe pats want to blackmail butler to play under the rfa tag and that's what's holding up butler signing tender bc pats aren't intending to then trade him.

Yeah, we have 5 picks in the first 3 rounds, and we always slay it with UDFA's. How many rookies do the "accumulate more picks" people think make the team?

I don't think that either team needs to be desperate.

1) Butler has to sign his offer.
2) The Saints offer their 2nd round pick
3) The Pats get to chose if they want to pay $2.35 million for one year of Butler or grab a 2nd round pick.

Unlikely he will be in NE in 2018 and the pats know it. They have a history of moving on and grabbing a pick for their process.

On the Saints end you say that the deal has to be done prior to the draft and you have two draft options ready to go. One if you get Butler and one if you don't. I think you still target DE with the #11 and then might go best player if you get Butler if not you take a CB with #32.

trade announced 5 minutes later

But seriously I kind of don't care at this point. If it happens it happens. If not sign another low end vet, sign a safety, move on.
