Kraft trying to drive up the price in trading for Butler.

say call his bluff and walk away then before the draft offer their 3 back and no more as long as he signed his tender.

Unless Butler is just straight awful next year, they will get a 3 if he leaves.

Not sure why everyone is upset. If we don't trade for Butler we still have 2 first round picks.

I think most people are upset because they all swore they knew what was going on.

That isn't how it works though

Furthermore, a 2017 3rd is worth a good bit more than a 2019 one

The Patriots accepting a 3rd late in the offseason isn't how it works either. It really seems like this thing isn't getting done.

Enough that it offsets having a top 10 type CB on a 3.5 million dollar salary in the middle of a championship window?

And then it still might not get done until draft day before the pick(s) gets used.

I don't think a 3rd gets it done

But I don't think you understand how comp picks work by your post. It's not nearly as simple as you're making it out to be

Malcolm Butler will be one of the top free agents on the market whenever he hits it. Obviously I am oversimplifying the process (if they splurge they don't get one), but I cannot imagine they'd get less than a 4th round pick when he leaves (if they don't splurge).

If I had to guess, they are fine with him shopping himself to other teams, and would think hard about matching if it was pick 20 and later. If the Saints were dumb enough to offer the 11th, they would take it and run. shite, even if he signs the tender and they franchise him next year, it's a pretty damn good two year contract for a top 10 CB.

But they will likely splurge on someone. They should have $50+ million to spend next offseason (not including the large portion of their 2017 space that will rollover). They are going to have to use their cap

I agree, and like I said, I don't think a 3rd rounder does it.

There really shouldn't be any updated threads on this until Butler signs his tender.

Wouldn't believe much of anything the '32' would ever say let alone something said just weeks before the draft.

Yeah idk what that means. Idk if he just means they aren't as serious as they were, as in they're backing off or if he's just trying to down play everything
