Bust? Lol. Busts can't get on the field and fall out the league.
Reggie averaged over 81 rush/rec. YPG as a rookie. He had 9 total TDs and a ridiculous 88 receptions.
A lot of the bust talk comes from many fans disliking from the get-go because of LSU/USC...same shite with Mark Ingram.

Reggie Bush was absolutely a bust. His production never matched money given at #2 pick. Him being a role player on a SB team does not really factor into the equation.
Bish is basically the RB version of Ted Ginn Jr.

If you think that a player needs to be All Pro to not be a bust as the number 2 overall pick then your expectations are out of wack. Bush had flashes of being one of the best play makers in the league. Your Ginn comparison is absurd.

we don't even GET to the Superbowl* in my opinion without that unbelievable TD run in the Cardinals game. Still one of my top three favorite Saints TDs of all time. The burst is so unbelievable I still can't quite believe what I'm seeing 6 years later.
* possibly overstating the case, but man that run was awesome.

We stomped the cardinals in that playoff game. I'm pretty sure we still would have won that game without that run

Once a year, we discuss this, I remember Reggie returning two punts for TD's and nearly breaking a 3rd only to lose the game. I also remember Reggie pouring it on during the playoffs of the Super Bowl run. NOT A BUST.

Did he live up to the hype no
Did he contribute and make key plays during his time for the saints yes

I think a lot of y'all aren't looking at this in the right context. Given that he was drafted 2nd overall, yes he is a bust. Is he a bust in terms of the average NFL player? No he was a solid contributor for a SB team, and a couple teams afterwards. But he put up nowhere near the production you would hope for/ expect from a #2 overall pick. The return definitely did not match the cost.
Now don't get me wrong, like I said in my first post, I think he was a big part of that SB team, and I like Reggie. I always rooted for him in Miami and Detroit. However that doesn't take away from the fact that in the correct context, he has been a bust. It is what it is. That's not to say he wasn't a solid player tho.
Go back and look at that draft. If they did a redraft, knowing what we know now, do you think Reggie would still be a top-10 pick? top-15? I don't.

The inability to stay on the field for 16 games was why he didn't live up to his #2 expectations.
The player itself, he was above average and a very special player if you set him up properly and when he was healthy.

In Saints history, Reggie Bush is 8th overall in receptions, 12th overall in rushing yards, 11th in TDs (tied for first in 2 point conversions), 4th in punt return yards and 1st in punt return touchdowns. He also scored 5 TDs for us in postseason with two rushing TDs, two receiving TDs and a punt return for TD.
This was all in a five year span.
Was not a bust.

So he's not even top-10 in the most important categories, and barely in another, in the record books of arguably one of the sorriest franchises in the history of the NFL (Until the last decade+). And somehow that's a good thing?

Dude sold a ton of tickets in a bad time for the Saints, and had many memorable plays. Reggie bush is one of the most important New Orleanians in the years following Katrina

It was basically implied that these statistics were supposed to impress. And not only implied, but stated, he wasn't a bust because.

Considering where he was drafted compared to his production on the field, technically yes.
