I don't know how they look at the plays, but it could be that they only hit him for 0.1 bc the penalty did not result in a lot of yardage, he did not give up the TD, and he basically had to interfere bc he was beat. I would have thought his pass coverage would have taken a hit, but not sure how they review the lays/games.

Murphy on STs would have been a lot higher had it not been for some penalties. Which at least 1 of them did not affect the play, and I think the other was a bad/blown call.

I thought Anthony had a better game then that, but the LBers were pretty bad w/ the pass coverage in the first quarter. A lot of hesitation, but it seemed like the Saints were doing that intentionally to get some film on areas they are not accustomed to.

It'll come in time so no need to worry

Definitively not worried over here. Even if they continue to struggle, then I'm sure they won't be asked to do it too much during an actual game.

Better find a pass rush or this season will be a long year.

These numbers are like voodoo. I don't quite understand them but they seem pretty accurate.

Once preseason is ended, I'll be able to compile all the stats.

That should give us a better look at player performances.

How did Cooks do bad. Anthony showed promise considering it was his first night on the field. I thought Kikaha looked okay with pass rushing too.

I actually thought we generated some decent pressure, we just didn't finish.

I didn't understand the hate Tim was getting during the game. Thought he played fine. Jahri terrifies me

Negative. Jerry Jones was the only one who actually showed interest. He also was the only one who took the the time hear La'el out. The Bills & Dolphins just basically "kicked the tires" with him but were never threats as buyers. Jerrah played on Collins emotions of going undrafted after having his name smeared in the media. Jones won both Collins & his mom over during a dinner at his house. This could have been any team if they would have reached & showed some love at that time. Here's a good read on the entire story of how it played out.

Jerry Jones earns Collins trust over dinner

I'm sure Jones & Les Miles relationship played a major roll in Collins signing with Cowboys. They have been close ever since Les' dad died when he was TE's coach there & Jones flew Miles to Ohio on his private jet for the funeral. Jones undoubtedly picked his buddy's about Collins real character which is why he didn't hesitate to sign La'el.

quote:

Miles got the call on a Wednesday. It was 2000. He was the tight end coach for the Dallas Cowboys. His mother told him the news: Bubba was dead. A stroke. Jerry Jones flew Les home to northeast Ohio on his jet -- "Jerry Jones in my book is a 10," he says -- and Miles found himself staring into a casket, running his fingers through his dad's flattop crew cut, feeling the embalming fluid sweating onto his fingers.

That's not an excuse for the Saints though. You use your own connections in situations like this. Rob Ryan & Les are buddies too going back to both being assistants at Oklahoma St. in 1997. I'm sure Rob could have gotten the same inside info on Collins character that Jones did.

quote:

When New Orleans Saints defensive coordinator Rob Ryan agreed to speak at the LSU high school coaches clinic Thursday, Tigers coach Les Miles knew what he was getting. And Ryan delivered as only Ryan can.

quote:

Ryan and Miles also have a past. The two crossed paths in 1997 as assistants at Oklahoma State. Miles left the next season but Ryan stayed for two more seasons before moving on to the NFL for good as linebacker coach for Belichik's New England Patriots.

LINK

What's done is done now but the Saints organization dropped the ball here no matter how anyone tries to twist it to say they didn't especially with all the question marks surrounding the current guards.

That sounds frighteningly like last year.

I still cringe thinking about all the times we flushed out the QB just for him to complete the pass.

I agree with this; however, I will say it appeared that we were only generating pressure from one side of the field at a time and the backside help was non-existent. A lot of those bootlegs were caused by pressure in the pocket, but the backside defender either collapsed in or was pancaked. But, we played a lot of young bodies early on that will get better w/ practice & game film.

Hopefully Akiem Hicks fishes the issue. Last year he played a lot of snaps as a DT as opposed to DE. If he can solidify the other side, him and Jordan have a lot of potential.
