I usually tell y'all to take these stats with a grain of salt.

Well, this time, you REALLY need to take these stats with a grain of salt.
It's preseason, so players get very few snaps, there are varying levels of opposition, restrictions, and there is no planning in regards to playcalling.

But I'll show these just so y'all can get an idea on how things went last night.

OFFENSE

-Great game for Khiry Robinson. Has he made greater strides than we expected? He's in the green for both receiving and rushing.
-All our QB's looked good. Surpised to see McCown ahead of Griffin. But Grayson's score is very impressive considering his struggles early in camp.
-Josh Hill pain train on schedule.
-People are concerned about Lelito, but he had a decent night.
-On the opposite side is Evans. He's just as terrible as we thought. How did this guy just fall off a cliff like he did? What's rough is I don't see many replacements here for him. McGlynn had a decent night? Kelemete played C? I don't know.
-Lots of effective receivers on the roster. Who makes it?
-Peat played ok.

DEFENSE

-Jamarca Sanford with the highest stats last night. Random.
-Here's a problem. There are zero players in the green for pass rush. What the frick are we gonna do?
-Still looking for that explanation for why we got rid of Tyrunn Walker.
-Ellerbe looked great for the 15 snaps he got to play before injuring himself.
-J Jenkins had a better score than I expected. Seemed like no one was anchoring the middle.
-According to this, we fielded a first team defense without Hicks and Byrd, then lost three more starters right away. It's hard to judge the defense when stuff like this happens.
-Lots of good run defense is a good sign, but damn do we need some pass rush. Even pass rushing specialists like Edabali, Richardson, and Kikaha were anemic.
-Hawthorne still sucks.
-Anthony and Kikaha have a ways to go.
-Eulls and Coley played well. Worth a second look, particularly Eulls.
-Spencer may be the prize of the offseason.
-SJB might be coming around.

ST

-Both kickers look great. Hocker got a greater chance to shine.
-Sunseri isn't impressing on any squad.
-Chris Highland sucks, whoever he is.

Yeah, he'd have the highest score on defense if he didn't get hammered with penalties.

Wasn't it salary cap reasons? IIRC, we didn't tender him because of salary cap constraints, and he had no draft pick compensation as a RFA. I wish we could have kept him, and Tom Johnson from the prior offseason.

Not sure how Coley is looking on special teams (which he would have to do well in to make the team), but he's been making some noise since Spring. I can see him stealing a roster spot, I just don't know who's spot he would take. Maybe Humber?

That would surprise me.
I'd rather see Hawthorne go than Humber.

I wouldn't mind it, but I have a hard time seeing the team going that young, and inexperienced at that position.

they ran a few plays that weren't exactly right at him either. He was doing alright flowing to the play but maybe could have done better fighting off a few blocks?

his pass rush has never been anything spectacular anyway so his overall will always take a hit b/c of it.

Edebali and Peat got the most playing time.

Edebali 59 plays, Peat 51 plays

This just proves to me that you have to take PFF with a grain of salt for games like this, or for singular games. Over the course of several games or a season, it can be very useful.

Sometimes you just have to trust your eyes. McCown was not better than Griffin or Grayson, sorry. Cooks was good to great.

Although some of them are definitely spot on, like Evans.

Glad to see Peat get a lot of playing time.....Now I want to see him at LT next week instead of RT....Since he's not going to be a starter the next best thing is to have him be backup LT since he is probably the better of the bunch behind Armstead

I thought Peat played fine.

Edebali REALLY needs to step up.
We keep hearing how he's such a disruption in camp, but he didn't generate much pressure at all last night.
And man, he whiffed HARD on that would-be tackle.

Ben Watson has also been getting good reviews in camp and wouldn't you know it?

next to nothing in the few plays he got last night.

could mean something... could mean nothing. Watson was not the best run blocker last year. I see where he didn't really do well last night either.

my guess is they'll get creative with extra lineman and still use the fullbacks when they want for run blocking.

say what you will about Jeremy Shockey but he was a helluva blocker. Probably the best all around utilized TE we've had in the Payton era.

That's a decent point.

But a huge difference between Watson and Edabali is that Watson has nothing to prove.

Can someone explain the penalty scoring?

Jamarca Sanford basically gives up the game with a pass interference in the end zone, yet he is score a 0.1 on penalty. Is it a positive because he did not give up the touchdown there and took the penalty instead?
