can't wait to see him run out in front of Sproles on those quick one lineman screens

Wow.
Really surprised with so much at stake Sunday. You would imagine he will have a TE on his hip much of the game.
Hope to see him out front on some screens to his side as well.
As they say "next man up".
This is going to be a excellent move Sunday and a huge relief going into next year or...

maybe not so much of terron proves he's good enough. Upgrade a center? Possibly upgrade strief but its doubtful, he's cheap and good enough for the most part in payton's mind.

One of two things:

1. Payton truly feels he is ready to take the next step on the active roster. God I hope and pray he shuts it down so we can get the OT position solified.

2. Payton feels he can't be any worse than what we currently have. I can't see him risking Brees' health like that if he didn't believe in Armstead

Hope the rookie comes out ready to prove he belongs and that we once again strike gold on a mid round lineman.

If he struggles look for Brown to come in. Payon trying to get as much out of Brown that he can squeeze out. Payton deserves credit. Hes getting as much out of this team as he can. Paytons best coaching job so far

If Armstead shows up on Sunday and down the stretch, it would be so awesome to not have to use T as our first pick and go BPA.

DLP more likely than not will be replaced. Strief maybe. Solid RTs can be had for cheap late in free agency (see Eric Winston, Tyson Clabo, though he's having a really bad season).

Armstead's PFF numbers in the preseason:

was perusing mock drafts yesterday, there were an abundance of OT's and a few hybrid G's going in the 1st and early 2nd round. May be a lot of value for that spot either with first pick or 2nd round.

Payton drafted him to do this. Is it a little earlier than he may have liked? Probably. But if you just sent Hartley packing for what he did, you can't just put Brown right back in after getting benched in the middle of a game.
Payton ain't fricking around. I think Armstead will do just fine. You know he's gonna play like hell to keep that spot.

ETa: not directed at you, just that idiotic tweet

he posted that in the middle of the game.

They werent going to put Armstead in the game against the DPOY.

Which is why they moved Streif to left tackle and not Armstead.

lol, so eat my words when i was right?

Both very good points.

Does anyone get the feeling that maybe Armstead was scarcely used as to not shake the confidence of Brown. Well, now, its too far not to. I think he had to, finally, ignore his loyalty to veteran players and play the best guy. As evidence with the Hartley waive and Brown benching.

Armstead should definitely upgrade the screen game but this makes me nervous against Carolina's pass rush.

You can do it rook!!! Fingers crossed.

Armstead wasn't even active for the game so the thought of thinking he meant during the game is irrational on all fronts. I'm only left to assume he meant moving forward with the franchise.

Would love Swanson in the second round, but I don't think he makes it to the late 50s/lower 60s. Would rather not use a first on a center.
