Payton, who attended the CrossFit Open announcement last week, described his team’s first “test” workout based on CrossFit, which players performed prior to embarking on their 11-5 season last year. The coaching staff split the Saints into four squads based on size and position, and the players performed the following circuit workout for time:

10 Power Cleans
10 Air Squats
10 Burpees
10 Shuttle Runs

Payton said his players were not exactly thrilled with the new approach. “They were like the anti-CrossFit people,” he declared, adding that their sentiments were due to the fact that they knew the workout would be very challenging.

The Saints may reach deeper into the CrossFit world for more ideas to implement in their program. The team has reportedly been working with Dr. Kelly Starrett, author of Becoming a Supple Leopard, co-owner of San Francisco CrossFit and a Subject Matter Expert for CrossFit Inc., to improve the team’s movement and mobility work.

He's a mobility/stretching/strength guru. There was a good special on him recently on the Showtime sports show. I forget the name. 60minute sports I think?

within in the next 10 years, i believe a ton of sports teams across all avenues will incorporate CF into their training.

It reminds me of when i was playing fantasy football 20 years ago and all my friends were laughing at me. Now there isn't a person that doesnt play fantasy football. Crossfit is going to boom like that.

mostly because it was a massive pain in the arse im sure. youd have to look up the stats yourself in the paper and tally up the scores and keep record of everything.

computers really made it surge.

Yea you'd look up stats in the paper the next day and run your own numbers. If you had players out of town you'd have to mail out updates every week and stuff.

CF gets a lot of hate by traditional gym goers because it appears to preach quantity over quality. I've seen many videos of people doing tons of incorrect pull-ups, push-ups, ect.
Also, it's been my experience that most cross fitters don't shut the frick up about cross fit.

He's widely considered a top expert in mobility and injury prevention right now. He actually has a protocol for preventing ACL/MCL/Achilles injuries.

He has been contracted to "fix" US special forces, even.

He has an odd set of lingo, hence his Supple Leopard book title.
