Payton / Brees not getting plays called in time and wasting timeouts

It's very rare to see a Super Bowl winning coach and QB tandem struggle with the basics like getting a play call in. At home. After a timeout.
But yet time after time after time last season, you'd see Drew Brees scrambling up to the line of scrimmage and wasting 2 or 3 timeouts before the end of the 1st and 3rd quarters respectively. The worst part was that it became so normal that Brees wasn't even getting upset by the middle of the year. When Tom Brady has to waste a timeout in the first quarter he is fuming. Steam is coming out of his ears.
I'm obviously down on Sean Payton - the poor hold he has over this team, the haphazard and undisciplined playcalling, his really bad challenging decisions that he has shown absolutely ZERO improvement on, his surprisingly bad clock management skills, the personnel decisions he's been involved with, and the continuous failure to keep his team relatively healthy heading into the season.
Hopefully they can clean up the basics this season because in order to win 9 games and take the NFC South, we're going to have to play at or above our talent level for a change.

Definitely not in an isolated year or two, but we've been decimated by injuries prior to the season and prior to the playoffs far more often than not.
Like in 2010 when we lost 2 or 3 starters for no reason when Atlanta was killing Carolina and it was obvious we'd not jump them. He keeps our guys in and that's why we lose to Seattle the following week.

I'm sick of negative threads and I really don't want to agree with Alejandro, but this did drive me a bit nuts last year.
There seemed to be a very lackadaisical approach to the presnap routine. The play would come in fairly late, Brees would take FOREVER in the huddle, then they would kind of just walk out of the huddle with no sense of urgency. The ball would routinely get snapped with 1 second on the clock, in a bit of a rush...or not at all.
Maybe it was an intentional thing to burn more clock, but I hated it. Drove me nuts.
I'd like to see a lot more crispness and urgency this year. Get moving. Get to the line with much more time on the clock.

With our suck defense last year, this makes sense.

I thought the same thing sometimes but then that thought was usually followed up by.... nahh... that isn't who they are.
I think the team just drank the kool aid last year and then ATL slugged us in the gut after a few costly turnovers in the first game.
sort of just got us in a funk that we never really got out of.
the whole season was sort of out of whack, I mean we started winning road games and losing home games.

Alejandro, give me your email Addy for a league invite. You must sign up as your original username though.

There's no way it was intentional - a few of the worst turnovers of the year came partly because we were so rushed at the line and Drew wasn't able to survey the defense and notice potential trouble sports or (better yet) tweak his protections.
If you compare our pre-snap efficiency between say 2009 or 2011 and last year, there's really no comparison. We looked like the 2012 Aaron Kromer Saints.
And Brees' seemingly casual attitude about everything just makes it all seem surreal. He's a top 5 QB in the league but he was acting more like Cutler or a checked-out RGIII at times than like Brady or Manning. I miss the passionate Brees that we saw at the Dolphins game in 2009 where he talked Payton into going for it and then dunked the ball, or in the 2013 San Fran game where that personal foul penalty on him visibly got him and the team pumped up and they kicked arse from then on. Last year he was just... kind of... blank.
Jim and Hokie would get more pissed off about wasting time outs that Brees and Payton got. So weird.

Not just this, but they will lack urgency when down, say, 10 points with 5 minutes left. It's been going on for a while.

Alejandro/MinnyTiger was always this. Wonder why he is not using original names as he has been outed as having multiple alters. Still banned maybe?
