I will not cheer for the Saints so long as Payton is a coach for the Saints. It's not hatred of the Saints that causes me to do this, but love of the Saints and honor.

This stuff is getting pretty funny. How admirable to have Have the guts to to go against the grain on an Internet message board.

The purpose of a defense is to knock the opponent on their arse. The coaches probably didn't take the league serious because they know this has been a part of football for decades and didn't think anything would come of it. Some people talk about "paying players to knock out players." Do the math, the payments are the se as $10-20 to us common folk. The money wasn't anything, it was bragging rights.

+1 BINGO...

Took the words out my mouth. Anybody read #4 on the document as part of their evidence. You think the NFL is investigating the Steelers for a bounty program. James Harrison alone.

We'll see who is holding Goodell's balls if he tells ESPN they can no longer do the little "HE GOT JACKED UP" bit next year. This is ESPN's own bounty system. You hit someone hard, legal or illegal, we will reward you each week by glamorizing it and increasing the financial value of that player with increase exposure.

Also, does anybody know how many opposing team players were ever carted off the field or never returned to a game during the 2009-2011 seasons because of a hit? I don't recall any. Pretty effective bounty program don't you say?

Regarding #4. I haven't seen the game in a long time, but I thought a good amount of the "late hit" calls on the Saints were full of BS. They were calls to protect the super star Brett Farve.

The NFL as a whole has started to become a joke. Roger Goodell is the ring leader. He himself has made football less fun, maybe less fun then the new "dead" bats they use in college baseball.

I think Payton's ruling was over the top and Goodell is only flaunting his power to try and make no one do it again.

I do remember Kurt Warner and Brett Favre getting helped off the field after getting hit hard during the 2009 playoffs. But where were the flags? Oh yeah, there were none.

Let's not forget the "Favre Rule" which came into effect after that game where if a team scores a field goal in its first possession in OT during a postseason game, the other team gets a chance to score.

Lawyers for injured players are going to take Goodell's staments and fry the league with them.

They know a Bounty System is in place and do nothing but send cease & desist letters, untill they learn it was continued?

If player's saftey was a concern them action should have been taken then.

The officials on the field, are there to enforce the rules. I would be willing to bet that every defensive coordinator has told his players to go out there and have no mercy on QB's, hold nothing back, as long as it's within the rules, If the QB gets hurt so be it. It's a violent game, played at full speed, players are bigger, stronger, and faster than ever before. On the other hand these players get paid plenty of money, no further incentive is needed. I remember D coordinators like Buddy Ryan, you can bet he had incentive programs in place. The Saints got caught doing something that is just plain stupid. The NFL saw this prob getting out of control, and needed to make an example out someone, and the Saints are it. I would like to know how many of these D players are now spread around the league, suspensions of these players would actually punish the teams they now play for. That leads me to believe that with the exception of maybe Vilma, other players will only be fined, not suspended.

Also, Commissioner Goodell said. “Let me be clear. There is no place in the NFL for deliberately seeking to injure another player, let alone offering a reward for doing so. Any form of bounty is incompatible with our commitment to create a culture of sportsmanship, fairness, and safety. Programs of this kind have no place in our game and we are determined that bounties will no longer be a part of the NFL.”

But in 2007, Packers players reportedly offered to pay the team's defensive linemen $500 each if they were able to hold Minnesota Vikings tailback Adrian Peterson under 100 rushing yards and the Carolina Panthers under 60 rushing yards as a team. Reportedly, the league investigated the Packers at the time for possible violations of both the illegal incentive program and the "bounty rule," which prohibits players from placing a bounty on opponents that could lead to unnecessary violent acts. Ultimately, the league did not enact any punishments. At the time, league spokesman Greg Aiello said, "The club has handled the matter with the players, and the incentive pool has been discontinued."

And 2008, As the Ravens began preparation for their heated rematch with the Pittsburgh Steelers, defensive end-linebacker Terrell Suggs said he hasn't received another warning from the NFL office this week about bounties. "But I have a good feeling Roger will be somewhere nearby watching," said Suggs, referring to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. Two months ago, Suggs told an Atlanta radio station the Ravens had a "bounty" on Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward. In the same radio interview, he called Ward "a cheap-shot artist" before saying the Ravens "got something in store for him."

The NFL then sent Suggs a letter informing him that any further comments or on-field activity indicating his participation in bounty activity could result in "significant disciplinary action."

Not to make any excuse for the Saints, but Goodell knew since his inception as Commissioner this was going on and did nothing to stop it.

He's done something to stop it now. I doubt we'll see it again after this unbelievable punishment.
